Warren Sapp of the Tampa Bay Bucanneers showed yet again what a classless individual he is. With offensive lineman Chad Clifton pulling up to stop with the play more than 15 yards away, Sapp layed a cheap shot on him. He lay there on the field while Sapp celebrated his "great" hit. Clifton was carted off the field and is in the hospital with numbness in his legs. When the game was over, Coach Mike Sherman of the Packers told Sapp he did not appreciate the hit. Sapp chased him all the way down the field yelling obsenities at the coach. I sure hope the NFL office takes a look at this and imposes the maximum penalty allowed. Hopefully they will suspend Sapp for the rest of the season. I realize hard hitting is part of the game, but there is no excuse for taking a cheap shot at someone not even involved in the play that is not even looking. Way to go Warren, you ***hole.

Well I guess we will see who is right or wrong on this question. Care to have a pool on the amount of fine Sapp gets for this? I'll start the bidding at $50,000. Just because you're a Buc fan doesn't make the hit legal. Methinks your post reeks as well.

On the replay it looked to me like Warren Sapp left his feet to hit Chad Clifton. I think there's a rule against that; of course, not every penalty gets called.
"If I was 25 years old and didn't have a kid and a conscience, I would have given him an ass-kicking right there at the 30-yard line."
I think we can agree that this is something not said by a person with any class. :)

I would just say to Warren Sapp there is going to be a day when he's going to be just a little too old or a little too slow to make a play on someone, and some young pup is going to come up and pop him good. When he whines, tell him that he needs to "put a (quarterback no-tackle) shirt on him".

Sapp's hit was probably legal(unless he left his feet, as alleged), but the real point is that it was totally unnecessary, having no impact on the actual play. So while Sapp may have been within the rules, he was completely lacking in sportsmanship.

As for his celebrating, realistically he likely was celebrating the play itself, not the hit. Can't fault him for that. But his reaction to Sherman, and his tirade in the locker room before the cameras, revealed what a truly classless lowlife scum that he is. A dopesmoking bigmouth thug of a fathead, the epitomy of everything that is wrong with SOME of today's self-centered athletes, celebrating everytime they wipe snot from their nose.

Care to have a pool on the amount of fine Sapp gets for this? I'll start the bidding at $50,000.

An excerpt from this ESPN article........

Clifton was hurt after Tampa Bay's Brian Kelly made a third-quarter interception that set up Tampa Bay's go-ahead touchdown. Clifton was pursuing Kelly, but was not close to him.

Sapp appeared to hit Clifton in the front of the right shoulder. Clifton was taken to the locker room on a cart.

Sherman angrily confronted Sapp after the game Sunday, complaining that Sapp knocked one of his players out of the game with a cheap shot.

Sapp denied the accusation and said he was stunned Sherman came up to him and initiated an obscenity-laced exchange after the player finished a television interview on the field.

Sherman said Monday he had no regrets that he confronted Sapp after the game, but he regrets it has become such a big issue.

"I did what I thought I had to do,'' Sherman said. "I didn't want it to be confrontational. I just wanted to say what I felt was important. Chad wasn't there to represent himself.''

An NFL spokesperson said Monday no action is being considered against Sherman.

"I don't think that was right at all," Bucs coach Jon Gruden said of Sherman's actions. "That's my opinion. Again, we're moving on, but I felt that was inappropriate. ... Warren Sapp did nothing illegal, malicious.

"I don't believe you approach the player after a game."

Gruden said Sapp's hit was legal. No flag was thrown on the play. The NFL declined to fine Sapp as well.

"The play was reviewed,'' NFL spokesman Michael Signora said Monday. "And because it was legal, there will be no disciplinary action.''

"I've got two or three blockers on me. We get a pick, Brian Kelly is running all over the field. I see a guy going at my man, I put a lick on him. What's the problem?'' Sapp said. "I didn't hit him below the waist, there's no flag on the play. Is this not a contact sport?''

During the incident between Sapp and Sherman, an unidentified Packers staffer was shoved by Sapp, then functionaries from both franchises stepped into the fray.

At one point in the shouting match, Sapp screamed at Sherman: "If you think you're so tough, why don't you put on a uniform?"

Yes there is - it's called FOOTBALL -- not playing with dolls.

Was it gentlemanly to do? No. A violation of any football or NFL rules? No.

If you're going to play football then expect to get hit. I know that may be a novel concept but I thought everyone learned that even if they've never played a down in their life.

While the injury was unfortunate, what Sapp did happens in virtually every high school, college & pro game every week. If the injured player would have not gotten injured then this wouldn't even be news.

And, Sapp was not yelling obscenities at Sherman - unless the full replay of Sapp vs Sherman that was shown on ESPN last night was doctored.

Unfortunately, Sapp (who I don't like anyway) will probabaly be fined for doing what he's supposed to do - HIT PEOPLE.

NFL = No Fun League

Combination Bush and Rush. Anyway, I always admit when I am wrong. Ok, he didn't chase him down the field, he tried to attack him. Sorry I got it ALL wrong. Yes, I saw where they were not going to fine him this morning. Oh well. I just hope these two teams meet again in the playoffs. If the Packers offensive lineman don't go after his knees or try to take him out of the game in some way, I will be very surprised. Yes, you're right it is a contact sport, not a cheap shot sport. If the NFL office won't do anything about this the Packer players need to take matters into their own hands.

Yet again, a complete mis-characterization of what transpired, filled with deceit and speciousness.

Are you from another planet? Did you not watch the replay or are you just trying to be stupid? If you watched the replay they had to restrain Sapp from attacking Sherman. He also pushed one of the Green Bay assistants, but I'm sure that you will see it another way. Try to not see it as a Buc fan and see it as an outside observer.

You should try to not see it as my idiot cat did and see it as a person with an IQ above 5.
