Thanks! I kept losing my place on the other one. I checked the AOL board tonight, I don't post there but I generally skim through the posts to see what is being said. They had pretty much turned to infighting the last few days and the monitor stopped it until there is a new development. There were quite a few regulars there like here.

It did get lively here after scaredkat and Devil_Anse started posting didn't it! I guess scaredkat moved on though. She had some pretty wild stuff.

I hadn't been on the thread for a couple of days, and had almost 400 posts to read. And I kept losing my place too. Yeah, I think there is a lot of infighting when there is no new news. And there isn't in this case. May God bless Elizabeth and her family, I keep hoping there will be a resolution sometime, but it sure doesn't look good. I think as a parent, that would be one of the hardest things in the world, not knowing what happened to your child.

Thanks Utah Girl.

I pray that eventually the mystery surrounding Elizabeths' disappearance brings peace and closure for her family.

I don't go to the aol board much....I know what you mean about the infighting....

I missed the arrival of the new posters...I have been back east for a Greek wedding of my neice....what fun....

sad that this crime will probably never be solved....which is a tragedy.

Look at all the press coverage they had...all the cops and the fbi...experts offering help from everywhere and a huge reward fund.....yet nothing....

then take a look at the Jennifer Short story...two parents murdered execution style and the little 9 year old abducted....not much coverage, a very small reward fund....yet this involved two murdered people...

if they can't solve the Smart case, with all the assets they had going for them, how can they solve all the other crimes like the Murder of Jennifer's parents and her abduction?

The Jennifer Short case certainly is an absorbing mystery.

One difference btw that case and this one is, there are no grieving parents left to doggedly pursue the search for their daughter. It appears that one of Jennifer's closer remaining relatives is all the way over in Alaska, and it must be hard for him to work in Alaska, while still staying in touch with an investigation in Virginia.

Another difference seems to be, that whatever church little Jennifer belonged to, it doesn't seem to be as large or as organized, with members who were willing to drop everything and go out in force to search for days all over the area, and not bothered by the fact that their involvement would bring on the unwarranted criticism and prejudice of people who are suspicious of them b/c of old incidents in their history.

The police in the Short case keep releasing statements to the effect of, "oh, there went our last lead, now what?" I get tired of hearing what seems to be their defeatist attitude. Maybe they are faking it, maybe trying to lull someone into a false sense of security in the hope of flushing him out. I hope so.

Funny, I'm almost as far from the Short case as I am from the Smart case. I find both equally absorbing. I'm sure if anyone related to Jennifer wanted to go on cable, they'd have some interviewers willing to have them on.

I wonder, if we started a thread on the Short case, would we have a cabal of people who tried to insinuate that Jennifer's choice of nightwear might be partly to blame for her being carried off?

Of course, we don't know yet whether Jennifer also wore "provocative" nightwear. You know, though, those girls who wear silk pajamas--if they end up being the target of some creep, well, they were just asking for it, anyway!

I assure you, Jengaio, that any possible clues offered by Elizabeth's choice of red satin pajamas have been thoroughly explored.

I found the input of Lakey particularly valuable in this matter, perhaps because Lakey's level of maturity seems so similar to that of the average 14-yr-old girl. It is indeed an unique perspective which she brings to our wonderings about this case. In particular, there were three quick, keen observations by Lakey, to paraphrase:

[It was Devil_Anse who mentioned the pajamas!

Yes, you know, it was Devil_Anse who said, "who runs away in her pajamas?"

Looking back eons ago, I remember my aunt bought me some nice peach-colored pajamas. If I'd been going to run away with a boy, I'd have sure worn those!]

I don't know if I have the honor of having begun this deep discussion of Elizabeth's pajamas, but I did make a post in which I allowed as how Elizabeth could have left voluntarily, but who runs away in their pajamas?

What ensued was, I now realize, almost a carbon copy of playground discussions I used to hear in Third Grade. Things like, "look at Lucy's necklace (whisper, whisper)it's tacky!" Followed by, "(giggle)Lucy, where'd you get that nice necklace?" Followed by the victim telling where she got it, and the other girls giving one another knowing looks until they all dissolved in wicked giggles, leaving Lucy to wonder whether they were going to shun her for the rest of the school year, or fall on her like hyenas and rip her necklace off her neck.

You know, come to think of it, Jengaio, perhaps Elizabeth did contribute to her own victimization. She should have known better than to wear such provocative pajamas in her bedroom, where just any burglar passing through might see her looking all sexy and flirty in them. I mean, doesn't anyone teach young girls modesty any more? If I interpreted Varina's posts on the subject correctly, she is of the opinion that the little hussy was asking for it. And...aqua nail polish! Why, she might as well have hung a sign around her neck saying, "I'm available, please abduct me and use me for all your sick, twisted desires!"

no devil..varina's point is that the public was given a perhaps tinted version of Lizzie for the first few weeks....a quiet, shy girl, almost baby-faced, who was "obediant"....most certainly a virgin..I think Sherlock stated that and I don't have a clue how she knows this.....a talented girl who never had any interest in boys and never used the internet...just never....

so the fact that perhaps Lizzie was a little more "normal" like other 14 year old girls, with painted nails and pretty, attractive pj's is relevant to know exactly who Lizzie Smart IS...

None of us know anything, really, about Elizabeth, except that she played the harp, was well-loved, and got awards for school. Varina knows no more of Elizabeth than does Sherlock. I refuse to blame Elizabeth for this even if she did act slutty and/or run away. I don't really think she acted slutty--there are no signs of it. She was only 14. Ashley Pond had had sex lots of times, she was, what, 13, and as far as I'm concerned, Ashley was 100% innocent, and not to blame in any way for her fate. I think the same of Elizabeth and just about anyone else that age.

I agree with you, I don't think the discussion on the pj's was anything but to point out that she was after all a normal teen-ager and it was not intended to make her appear "slutty". Certainly she was not at fault for her own kidnapping. That would be a ridiculous assumption given the circumstances that we know. Also it would be agreeing with the idiots that still think that when a woman is raped it is because she "wanted it to happen".

Now you're really talking like a jerk. I haven't heard anyone blaming Elizabeth for her disappearance -- no matter what she wore, etc.

Your post are starting to border on desperation.
