Ok. I know how some love and others hate my little music polls. I think they are light and give us a way to talk in a non-political forum. Today's poll is "what rock albums do you think are PERFECT?" This means that there no clunker tracks and you can listen to the album front to back without forwarding past a song.
My working list is as follows:
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
The Beatles - Revolver or SGT. Peppers
Black Flag - MY WAR
Black Sabbath - first four albums David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars
James Brown - Live at the Apollo
The Clash - London Calling
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River
Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters
Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in My Backyard
The Doors - The Doors
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
Funkedelic - Maggot Brain
Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On?
Grateful Dead - American Beauty
Jimi Hendrix - Are you experienced? OR Electric Ladyland
Huster Du - Zen Arcade
The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II
Ministry - Land of Rape & Honey
Modern Lovers - (first album)
The Monkees - Headquarters
Morrisey - Viva Hate
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Nirvana - Nevermind
Parliment - Mothership Connection
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon OR Meddle
The Police - Ghost in the Machine OR Sychronicity
Prince - Purple Rain OR Dirty Mind
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blod Sugar Sex Magic
Lou Reed - Transformer
R.E.M. - Document
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed OR Sticky Fingers
Rollins Band - End of the Silence
Sex Pistols - Never mind the bollocks here are the sex pistols
Simon & Garfunkel - Bookends
Sly & The Family Stone - there's a riot going on
The Smiths - The Queen is dead
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA OR Nebraska
The Stooges - The Stooges
Television - Marquee Moon
They Might Be Giants - Flood
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak
U2 - achtung baby
Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground (3rd album)
Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (1st album)
The Who - The Who Sell Out
Neil Young - after the gold rush
I'm sure I'll think of more . . .
Perfect what?
This is a Coin toss for me Also... For Lyrics Both are definite Tens with Revolver having a slight lead, Melodys I will have to go with Revolver (Even though Pepper has some great ones) but Pepper is one of the most Spectacular Technical Recordings ever! (Especially when one considers what kind of equipment they used at the time!) "Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon OR Meddle"
No Contest here... Dark Side of the Moon wins hands Down.
Now here is a couple of My Favs:
Queensryche- Operation Mindcrime
Rush- Moving Pictures
Boston - Boston
The Doors - The Doors
Rubber Soul - The Beatles
Who's Next - The Who
Led Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin
Van Halen - Van Halen
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Let it Bleed - The Rolling Stones
London Calling - The Clash
Abbey Road - The Beatles
Iron Maiden... "Piece of Mind" and "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"
Thin Lizzy... "Johnny the Fox" and "Jailbreak"
The Who... "Live at Leeds" and "Who's Next"
Humble Pie... "Rock On" and "Smokin"
I think so, but now that you ask, I'm not sure. The one I'm referring to is the one where the B-side has songs from earlier albums (maybe EPs) that had not yet been released here in the USA.
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer -- Trilogy
Some of the others mentioned I've heard and agree with, too, like Dark Side of the Moon and Sgt. Pepper/Revolver.
