Digital media is incapable of replacing the tactile aspect of working with real media.
For a non-art analogy, why do hunters go through all the trouble and expense of deer hunting when they can just buy meat at the store?
I should probably make my analogy more in keeping with Apple’s ad. Why hunt when you can just use an iPad to order meat delivered to your door?
Agree when it comes to serious art; same with music.
But the huge amounts of commercial images surrounding us daily that were formerly produced with "fine art" materials are much more easily and cheaply done with digital -- TV ads, catalogs, book and magazine illustrations, animations, movie and stage backdrops and props, posters—all kinds of print and online imagery. Graphics people used to call it "wastebasket art."
