The Boy Scouts is dead to me, and has been for years. I used to support them in view of my boyhood membership.

That stopped a long time ago.

My dad was an Eagle Scout. I was an Eagle Scout. My nephew was an Eagle Scout. My middle son joined a troop and earned First Class before the first Court of Honor. The scoutmaster suggested he should slow down. He did. Hard stop. No more scouts. He redirected his efforts to advanced placement courses and the band. I attended a few parents meetings on behalf of his troop. There was an endless focus on raising money and engaging in expensive activities. Honestly a very misdirected organization. No regrets about leaving.

During my years in San Diego there was a continuous assault on the scouts in San Diego County from the "gay community". The most public issues were around the Scout camp in Balboa Park and the Facility on Fiesta Island. The San Diego city council was eventually overtaken by a number of gay city council members. That turned out poorly for the scouts.

I was in the BSA in the 1970’s. Got my eagle rank.

My son eagled out in 2010. I was a merit badge counselor.

No way in hell will I have anything to do with this organization now.
