Steven Seagal made a surprise appearance at Vladimir Putin's inauguration ceremony today.

The Hollywood actor, who previously hailed himself "one million per cent" Russian arrived in Moscow for president-elect's Kremlin event taking place today (May 7). Putin begins his fifth term as Russian president today after nearly a quarter-century in office.

Seagal pledged his allegiance to Russia at an event held by International Movement of Russians in Moscow in March last year. During the event, the 'Above The Law' star accused the US of spending "billions of dollars on disinformation, lies" which was an attempt to "try to discredit, demoralise and destroy the emerging morale of Russia".

Steven was also previously named the Russian Foreign Ministry's special representative, a middleman for Russian-American humanitarian relations in 2018. Last year, Putin said Steve's "great contribution to the development of international cultural and humanitarian cooperation" was the reason behind his Order of Friendship medal.

The actor hailed Putin "one of the greatest world leaders, if not the greatest world leader, alive today". The 72-year-old was granted a Russian passport in 2016 after making his support for the annexation of Crimea in 2014 clear. Seagal and Putin are believed to have initially bonded over their mutual love of martial arts.
