Make that two votes. Men Without Hats’, “Safety Dance,” was the ultimate one hit wonder of the 80s...not quite sure why they didn’t get more traction. Their 1987 album, “Pop Goes The World,” was actually quite good.

Huge fan of them as well. All super talented, but Partridge is an absolute genius.

You almost had to be there to get it. Notice how all the kids watch the first couple seconds and then the views drop off? Their music starts nowhere, and goes nowhere, and nothing happens, then it stops. If there isnt a connection right off then it isnt worth listening to for most of them and they dont want to be distracted by it having “a good part”, a solo, or anything that doesnt make it smooth like oatmeal. Part of what made that song good was exercise in waiting.

Modern English had hits with "Melt With You," and "Hands Across The Sea," so technically speaking they were not a "one hit wonder."

I’m hoping to make my pilgrimmage to Swindon, next time I fly to England. I definitely want to see the Uffington White Horse, which was featured on the “English Settlement” cover.

I also like the “Safety Dance” flipside, “Living in China”.

“ They got the red book
They got the new look
The little people that are living in China
They got the answers to all the questions
All the little people that are living in China
The solution is revolution
For all the little people that are living in China
Got ping pong egg foo yung
All of the people that are living in China”

Good point.

What angers me MOST is THE WORSE THE MUSIC GETS, THE BETTER THE VIDEO QUALITY GETS.

Some girl told about new music called "WUB". All it sounds like is WUB WUB WUB, etc.. WTF!

I was around 14 or 15 when that album came out...it was by far my favorite song of the year, and consistent with the times, my favorite video, too.

Drums & Wires, Black Sea and English Settlement have always been in my collection, in one form or another. Wish I still had all my old vinyl.

I also had to pick up the Rag and Bone Buffet, just for “Take This Town,” which has always been a favorite of mine.

Do you have the Dukes of Stratosphear albums? Those were great as well.

Ahh that also had “Blame The Weather”, one of my favorites from Colin.

That singer for ‘Til Tuesday had some real talent. Great voice and outstanding bass player.

I don’t, but a friend of mine is also an XTC fanatic and I’ve heard them. In fact, he’s the one who got me into New Wave/Alternative/Punk way back in the day (late 70s-ish?), and it was one of the greatest things anyone’s ever done for me. ;-D

Coppola is his real last name. Cage is a stage name.
