Trump VP contender Kristi Noem writes of killing dog – and goat – in new book
The Guardian ^ | April 26, 2024 | Betsy Reed

....In 2024 Kristi Noem, a strong contender to be named running mate to Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, has managed to go one further – by admitting killing a dog of her own.

“Cricket was a wirehair pointer, about 14 months old,” the South Dakota governor writes in a new book, adding that the dog, a female, had an “aggressive personality” and needed to be trained to be used for hunting pheasant....By taking Cricket on a pheasant hunt with older dogs, Noem says, she hoped to calm the young dog down and begin to teach her how to behave. Unfortunately, Cricket ruined the hunt, going “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life”.

Noem describes calling Cricket, then using an electronic collar to attempt to bring her under control. Nothing worked. Then, on the way home after the hunt, as Noem stopped to talk to a local family, Cricket escaped Noem’s truck and attacked the family’s chickens, “grabb[ing] one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another”.

Cricket the untrainable dog, Noem writes, behaved like “a trained assassin”.

When Noem finally grabbed Cricket, she says, the dog “whipped around to bite me”. Then, as the chickens’ owner wept, Noem repeatedly apologised, wrote the shocked family a check “for the price they asked, and helped them dispose of the carcasses littering the scene of the crime”.

Through it all, Noem says, Cricket was “the picture of pure joy”.

“I hated that dog,” Noem writes, adding that Cricket had proved herself “untrainable”, “dangerous to anyone she came in contact with” and “less than worthless … as a hunting dog”.

“At that moment,” Noem says, “I realised I had to put her down.”

Sad, but totally understandable. I just put down one of my dogs that had this issue. We lived and loved that dog for three years. But while she started out with some anxiety and mild aggression, she grew into almost a monster frequently fighting with our other dog. She loved people but she grew increasingly aggressive towards our other dog and was always a little strange. It got to be almost 24/7 with her barking and being angry with our other dog. Then one day I made the dumb mistake of pinning her down in the middle of the two dogs tangling. Totally my fault, but she bit me in the face and I needed corrective surgery. We still didn’t put her down but the constant barking and growing aggressiveness got to be too much. I put her down. We were quite sad, but it had to be done. I do not blame Noem one bit. She did the right thing.

Kinda middle ground between Muslims and Christians, huh? If she killed and ate cat, she’s got the Asian vote locked up.

South Dakota looks to me like one of if not the best run out of 50 states and a few territories.

This is fully intended as a hit piece by The Guardian.

But most self-sufficient, conservatives who read this will not only see nothing wrong with it, but give Kristi Noem credit for doing an unpleasant task that needed doing.

As much as I love animals, this was the right thing to do, and she did it. It only elevates her, in my opinion.

But we are not the targets for this hit piece. It is Leftists. And to them, who know nothing about the life and death like this that is commonplace in areas like South Dakota, this is like murder.

I don’t care.

It Trump chooses her as a VP, I might or might not support her on various other things, but on this I would fully support her and credit her rather than disparage her.

If you live on a farm you aren't going to take a dangerous animal miles away and pay a vet a bunch of money to put it down.

If it's a horse or a cow, you'll call the vet to come over because it's worth a lot of money. If it needs to be put down, you'll get it to move back somewhere if you can where you can bury it or the stink won't bother anyone and have the vet put it down or put a bullet through the brain pan to kill it instantaneously. If it's a cow you might butcher it. If you're European and its a horse you might butcher that also.

The country is being ruined by a flood of idiotic sentimentality.

Heinlein has never been more relevant than to today’s cultural rot...

Heinlein was a wonderful writer. Unfortunately, he used his talents to contribute to the cultural rot.

He was blatantly anti-Christian.

He pushed the "sexual revolution" for all it was worth. He toyed with incest, pedophilia, and homosexuality.

He was a staunch atheist for most of his life, then became a deist. I hope he found Jesus before he died.

Had she only killed an unborn child instead, she would be a shoo in.

How very stupid of her. Trump do not pick this dog killer. I think he should pick Ron. Maximum gravitas is needed.

I would add the people claiming to be hunters with bird dogs trashing Noem are those who hunt for pleasure, not food.

Stupid hypocrites.

Just makes her more human.

Common practice, here, in the country, with dogs that kill chickens or run deer.

Those that are shocked by these normal actions weren't going to vote for PDJT, anyway.

How dare you? Those are little fur babies you’re writing about murdering. My fur babies love me more than m children do. They are part of my family and I would do anything for them. They understand my every thought because they are so smart.

Murderer!

In case it’s not obvious, that is total sarcasm. People who ascribe human characteristics to animals are morons.

Noem doesn’t come even close to the number of deaths that Biden and democrats have done.

Biden and democrats have killed 50-100 million with the approval of abortions. Even now, Biden and democrats cry foul after SCOTUS put an end to the federal nationwide approval of abortions. But, millions continue to die because of abortions, and Biden wants millions more, as do democrats.

Does Kristy approve of murdering the “unborn” humans?

People these days don’t make any sense

Sure they do.

Their own language gives them away: It's not a pet, it's a "fur-baby". They're not owners, they're "dog mommies".

They lack the wit to distinguish between Man and Beast. This leads them to undervalue Man and overvalue Beast. It's sick and twisted, but it has an internal logic ...

To Leftists, particularly the stupid ones, electricity comes from those things in the wall of their houses, and meat and poultry were raised in white styrofoam trays covered with shrink wrap.

Life and death on a farm is a common thing to farmers with livestock. They have to be practical, because they don’t have the time or money to be sentimental. A working farm doesn’t allow that.

My wife and I stayed for a week at a dairy farm up in Vermont that probably had about 200 cows and doubled as a bed and breakfast. You could help with the chores if you wanted, or...you could hang out and read a book.

No television.

It was interesting. I loved watching the workflows, how people did things, the pace they worked at, etc.

As I was reading a book on the porch, I saw one of the dairymen get the attention of his coworker. Shortly, a backhoe with a bucket came out, and they loaded the corpse of a dead calf into it, and drove off. I followed and watched, they dug a trench, put the calf in, covered it up.

They had work to do, and not much time to mourn the death of a young animal, and so it went. Very workmanlike and little to no sentimentality, as one would expect, then back to work.
