Only due to their similarity in appearance/style of dress and makeup. Benatar can sing opera (and has done so). Joan just screams, which is fine for a punk record. Benatar is famous for her breathwork, range and control. Just the beginning “woah-ah-woah-ah-woah-ah-whoooooooaaaaaa” opening from “Love is a Battlefield” is extremely difficult to accomplish, and Benatar made it sound easy.
I agree, Pat B. has the richer singing voice.
I’m thinking of Pat’s song “We Belong”.
Listen to the last chorus of it. You can hear the opera like structures of the women’s chants. It builds and recceeds and repeats with great precision.
