That’s more or less what the British did against the French.
I believe that was what the Normans did against the Saxons as well.
Several arrow waves and you have left the enemy with a few holes in their lines, and hides without taking any damage yourself.
Women fighting with swords? For the most part, no. There might have been one or two exceptions but they would have been major exceptions. Close in combat against men they would lose every time. Distance weapons like slings and arrows? That works.

Later the Manchu bow - composite reflex bow - had a pull up to 200 lbs. Most were 133lbs.
But composite reflex bows were in use long before that.
By comparison, the English Long Bow draw strength was 150-180 lbs.
