Also. Eliquis will be going generic in the not too distant future. 2026 was the latest I heard. There are a couple of generics already approved but they are going through the patent challenges in court.

“Eliquis will be going generic in the not too distant future. 2026 was the latest I heard.”

So they say. I wouldn’t count on it.

A generic was scheduled to be available early in 2023. It was so close, that Humana had already transferred my prescription to the generic in January.

“In 2019 the FDA approved a generic version of the drug. That’s because according to government documents the composition of the matter patent covering apixaban or Eliquis was set to expire in February 2023.

“Fowler’s pharmacy manager David Maney says that could have dramatically decreased the cost of the drug. He estimates instead of $600 a month the cost would be around $12 a month.

“But the generic version of the drug won’t be available for several more years. BRISTOL MYERS SQUIBB AND PFIZER FOUGHT TO RESTORE THEIR PATENT.”

I was so pissed that I met with my someone in my Representative’s (Tim Burchett) office since it was pretty apparent that the pharma companies and FDA are in cahoots. Burchett’s staff guy, who had the personality of an old ping pong ball, muttered that they can’t get involved in private enterprise. Last I heard, FDA isn’t “private enterprise”.

Also, Congress DOES get involved with private enterprise. All the time.

Still pissed, BTW.
