Had a new, young, gay priest at our high school in the 1980s. All the boys felt he was a weirdo. Clearly a pedo.
He disappeared suddenly one day and we found out he left the priesthood and was with his “partner” in another state. I later learned that an older priest, who was a combat-veteran Marine in WWII, pulled him aside and told him he would beat the sh** out of him if he heard one more complaint or story about his behavior.
Problem solved - quickly, quietly, and without any scandal.
