Just like “Red badger” and I discussed. Most of these “safety” features are because some manufacturer got sued when someone did something stupid.

Hence. what do you call a boat load of lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?

We bought a Frigidaire Gallery model less than a year ago...

Back in 2015 we had to replace a 22 year old Kenmore refrigerator. A friend of of mine was the store manager for a Lowes and they had a Frigidaire french door unit, listed at $3400, on floor sale due to a tiny dent on a side panel that would be hidden anyway.

The price was so good I purchased the five-year extended warranty and I am glad I did. The control panel had to be replaced in 2018 so it paid off. After the warranty ended the main water valve assembly died and the water/ice switch/paddle assembly broke. I bought them online and replaced them myself. Now there is a water leak I cannot find. It is not from a clogged condenser drain and I may have found it but I am so pissed it is already needing another repair in less than ten years.

I also had to replace both plastic crisper drawers due to how flimsy they are.

We are now not fans of Frigidaire.

Our 10yr old Kenmore water valve broke, I'll probably buy the $120 valve and replace it. Just spent $40 for a replacement shelf. Other than that it still works :)

Here's a scam that Lowe's runs that I didn't find out about until after I also bought the 5 year extended warranty: The extended warranty doesn't go into effect until after the one year manufacturer's warranty expires, but the 5 year clock starts ticking when you first purchase the extended warranty.

So in effect Lowe's charged me for a 5 year warranty, but it is only a 4 year extended warranty.

If the product you buy happens to have a 5 year factory warranty, if you by Lowe's 5 year extended warranty you get no extended warranty at all.

Honestly, I thought it was something to do with a water line either frozen up or stopped up, because it doesn’t stop dispensing water in hot weather. Dunno.

We have a 2015 Frigidaire french door refrigerator and it had almost the identical symptoms of yours.

I troubleshot it down to the water valve. Ours has five or six actual valves in the until but the servo for the water dispenser had a open so it would not open the valve and dispense water.

I had to spend $80 on the OEM replacement valve assembly on Amazon and it now works fine.

That tells me about how much it should take to get it repaired ($180+) by my appliance guys, since I’m only somewhat tech-savvy re: computer stuff. I’m planning to address it next month.... after I get a front brake job. Priorities, dontcha know. And somehow, it is always something breaking, leaking or not working these days (sigh).

Thanks.

After I posted, I regretted using the term “smart”. I knew it would draw some comment at some point, and it wasn’t really what I was talking about anyway. My mistake for using the term.

Anything with “smart” in its name is suspect.....

I concur, especially in the current environment. Nothing smart with regards to leaders in government, business, or anywhere else.

Our brightest are all sad jokes, and they aren't even funny either. 🙁

We have a 1930’s vintage Serval natural gas refrigerator at work that runs better than any brand sold today.
