I had forgotten about this guy but he tossed pizza on the ground as part of a protest against a then recently enacted city council measure that called for the mandatory replacement of gas- and (more significantly, I might add) wood-fired pizza ovens with electric ovens all in an effort to “save the planet.”
New York-style thin-crust pizza would be no more.
I think I described him as a hero at the time.

He’s got supporters. He’s got the entire borough of Staten Island on his side and I would guess most New Yorkers think it’s ridiculous that more than a dozen cops were sent to arrest him for littering.
Mayor Adams is not popular (he lost popular support almost immediately on taking office) and this is another nail in his mayoral coffin.
