I voted twice for the senate spot. Once for the one in which the governor appointed the women from Maryland. I thought I was voting for someone (Garvey) to go to DC now and be sworn in till the “permanent election” in November. What happened to the short term seat.

Good point. Part of this was a special election to fill the seat until the end of the 118th United States Congress (ending on January 3, 2025).

On November 5, 2024, there will be a special election to fill the rest of the six-year term that Dianne Feinstein (D) was elected to in 2018. Primaries were scheduled for March 5, 2024. The filing deadline was December 8, 2023.[1]

The special election will fill the vacancy left by Dianne Feinstein (D), who died on September 29, 2023.
