It might be the most unforgettable year for film in ages
We look back at the ’90s with newfound respect these days.
The decade lacked the signature style of the ‘80s, and few films or TV shows sing its praises.
The ‘80s has “Stranger Things,” “The Wedding Singer” and “Hot Tub Time Machine,” to name just a few movies honoring the decade. The ‘90s? We’re still waiting, and flops like “Mid90s,” Jonah Hill’s respectable debut as writer/director, don’t count.
It’s still the last decade when free speech reigned supreme. Political correctness began in that era, but it didn’t fully take over Hollywood … yet.
What’s undeniable? The ‘90s wrapped with a remarkable year for film. Stunning, even.
“The Matrix”
Yes, the ensuing sequels got worse, and worse, until the fourth film in the saga left almost everyone cold. That doesn’t diminish the original, a cultural behemoth that revived star Keanu Reeves’ career and set a new standard for action movies.

Blair witch is wicked scary. It perfectly captured the feeling of being in the woods at night. We used to live on the edge of some woods. I couldn’t watch this movie without locking all the doors.
And then there were three!
I forgot. I haven't seen that garbage.....errr...movie in 25 years. I guess they got to check that Hollywood cliche box then.
I had to look up Dark City as I hadn’t seen it. Decent cast. Might try to get it from library
Did not like Blair Witch - AT ALL
The Bones TV series had a segment that reminded me of Blair. Good segment at a great series. I never saw it when it was on TV. Bought the DVD n watched all
On your site I’ve seen and liked
Erin Brockovich
Silkwood
Chariots of Fire - of course music was great
Schlinder’s list
Social Networ;
I’m not there - quirky but fun
Goodfellaws
Lawrence of Arabia - lots of sandn great soundtrack
Most I’ve not heard of
Haven’t seen Oppenheimer yet
I loved the Matrix flicks All even though first was best
“Galaxy Quest is the only one I have seen. And I only watched that to see Sigourney Weaver as a hot blonde.
Put me down as another Dark City fan. I didn’t realize it was a flop at the box office.
It didn't have enough to draw in an audience to warrant a full movie.
All I remember is that the Florida sun was hot that day, and the dollar movie theater was cool, and I came away being a little wow'ed. :)

Anything with a twist is “arguably” an enhanced episode of Twilight Zone. Just like The Matrix. Dark City just didn’t advertise well. It happens. Especially with smart movies, Hollywood has no idea how to advertise anything you’re supposed to think about after. The ads for Matrix were all about bullet-time. That brought them in. There’s no hook in Dark City, you pretty much have to no somebody who says “ignore the trailers, it’s what fanboys of the Matrix think the Matrix is, only better”, and then you watch it and you’re blown away.
OK--you guys got me curious, so I watched it this afternoon.
You were correct--it is a very good movie.
And her new assets
“Office Space” for me.
Hurray another one.
I saw it too. So that makes the three that saw it.
The Matrix is so profoundly stupid. It has apparently been embraced as some sort of “trans” allegory.
