Kamala wouldn't appoint Newsom because they are both California residents.

If the DNC decides to replace Biden after the convention, Whitmer or Hochul would be better choices because they could then leave Kamala in the VP slot (as impeachment insurance for their President if he wins).

Not true. Amendment 12 passed in 1804 does not forbid it.

Before that, the VP was whoever came in 2nd.
