I have been given to understand than in Texas, even a good prosecutor will often put cases like that in front of a grand jury, so that the citizen who acted in self defence will get an affirmative “no true bill” judgment. That puts a definitive end to the case ... a future miscreant prosecutor can’t reopen it.
