Putin Labels Soviet Union’s Collapse as ’20th Century’s Greatest Catastrophe’

Reflecting on the aftermath of the Soviet Union’s dissolution, Russian President Vladimir Putin termed the event as one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century. This sentiment stems primarily from its immediate impact on the ethnic Russian population, a theme that has found recurring resonance in Putin’s rhetoric.

According to Putin, the collapse of the Soviet Union led to an unprecedented situation where overnight, 25 million Russians found themselves living outside Russia’s borders. These individuals suddenly transitioned from being citizens of a dominant global power to becoming ethnic minorities in newly formed nations. This demographic shift, Putin underscores, elucidates the longstanding consequences of the Soviet collapse on the Russian diaspora.

“200 ORTHODOX Church” program.

Yes, I do agree one thing with Russia. It would be great if like Russia, the US would make Catholicism the defacto state religion if not the official state religion, whilst harassing and even banning banning all other Christian denominations. Put taxpayer monies into building and maintaining those beautiful Catholic Churches. No more annoying bingo and spaghetti dinners needed.

Wouldnt it be grand!?

What you claim hasn’t actually happened. Merely what the government says has happened

Similar to Iran declaring freedom for women

Russian Orthodox churches are simply another branch of the state. Their priests are FSB agents.

The article refers to the Russians outside the border as being taken from a “dominant global power” to being an ethnic minority.

The “dominant” global power does not dissolve. The problem is that 30 years on, the Russians still don’t realize they are not the dominate power. I would think two years into a quagmire against Ukraine their “dominance” would be evident to them.

Fortified town? It was a village of about 10,000 before the war. It has been an empty ruined field for more than a year.

The only good thing for the Russians is they have a place that is flat and not wooded where they can set up a supply depot.

I guess instead if building churches…they should have been building chicken coops.

He was a clerk with the KGB. He was never the head of it.

He worked in a mayor’s office, and worked his way up from there. There is a myth of a KGB secret agent running Russia.

Go down the your city clerk’s office. See the guy running that? Yeah…that was Putin in the KGB.

Vladimir Putin’s version of Back in the U.S.S.R.
Apologies to the Beatles

Flew in from the west on an Aeroflot flight
At least that’s what it seems
I arrived at the Kremlin at the height of its might
At least that’s what’s in my dreams

I’m back in the U.S.S.R
You don’t know how lucky I am, boy
Back in the U.S.S.R

Communism’s been gone so long, you’d hardly recognize the place
Rationing and food lines ten kilometers long
And none for those in disgrace
Another five-year plan gone wrong

I’m back in the U.S.S.R
You don’t know how lucky I am, boy
Back in the U.S
Back in the U.S
Back in the U.S.S.R

Well

The rhythm gymnast girls really knock me out
They leave the Western girls far behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
That Georgia’s always on
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my mind
Oh, come on!
Woo! (Hey)
Woo! (Yeah)
Woo! (Yeah)
Hell, yeah

Hey, I’m back In the U.S.S.R.
You don’t know how lucky I am, boys
Back in the U.S.S.R.

You never heard anti-Soviet news
Those dissidents were sent to Siberia
Where they sing all their American rhythm and blues
And die of deprivation and hypothermia

Hey, I’m back In the U.S.S.R.
You don’t know how lucky I am, boys
Back in the U.S.S.R.

Putin was a decorated Lt. Colonel in the KGB, not a clerk and he headed the FSB which replaced the KGB.

Putin was a decorated Lt. Colonel in the KGB

George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, who served as the Director of Central Intelligence (DCI) from 1976 to 1977.

George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States, who oversaw the CIA’s involvement in the War on Terror after the 9/11 attacks. He authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations, detain and interrogate suspected terrorists, and use controversial techniques such as waterboarding.
