They were anything but in and out.
Burger lovers were so desperate to try Idaho’s first In-N-Out they waited up to eight hours in line — with some even camping out overnight.
The excitement for the California-based chain’s celebrated patties, fries, and shakes was so intense that hundreds were already waiting for the drive-thru when it opened in Meridian on Tuesday at 9 a.m., much earlier than typical hours, the Idaho Statesman reported.
The demand meant it was anything but fast food — with signs soon warning those joining the massive line to expect seven- to eight-hour waits, the outlet said.
Some customers even decorated their cars for the festive occasion.

They could have driven to Salem, Oregon in less time - they have one there
I liked In-N-Out when I worked in Tempe, AZ. That was the first place and only times I’ve had their food. It’s pretty good, but it is just a fast food hamburger joint after all.
I don’t understand the waiting hours to eat anywhere ever. But, I would go somewhere else if there’s more that a 15 min. wait for fast food.
Do you know what they call a quarter pounder in France?
A “Royale with Cheese”...Because of the metric system?
Nope! But seems like the marketing dept has done a fantastic job. There is one on South Virginia street in Reno and always has 10+ cars in the drive through. Give me a Whataburger or LottaBurger any day over in and out.
Every time a national chain opens their first restaurant in Alaska it usually breaks the record for opening day sales. Me, I wait for all the hoopla to die down before going there. One of the latest to open here was Jersey Mikes. I waited two months and the place was still packed when I went. Blaze Pizza also just opened here, but I haven’t tried that yet.
In a word.. No.
In and Out is this hyped up institution thing out on the west coast... Lived there for a little over a year, and they are pretty much everywhere... never heard of them before moving there but everyone there just talked them up... I had them, not bad for a fast food burger, but is it worth standing in line for 8 hours to try one? Absolutely not.
Culvers is interesting, being midwest based they definitely don’t shy away from good food just to try to pretend to be healthy.
In and Out, IMHO very overrated, not a bad burger, but nothing spectacular.
Whataburger is interesting, their sauce I think really makes their burgers something different.
Don’t live near one, so have only had it occasionally while traveling... a lot of what I hear from people who do live near them is that Whataburger has gone down hill since the family sold it out to some investment group out of Chicago back in 2019.
Jersey Mikes IMHO is absolute swill.... have gotten sick every time I have eaten there...
IF I want a hot sub, I’ll take DeBella’s any day of the week over Jersey Mikes.... not that I am a sub person much anyhow... but if I do have a hankering I will either hit the local joint in Pittsburgh called Peppi’s or I’ll go to DeBella’s.
The burgers are really good, but the fries are terrible!
I have no desire to eat there. I don’t care if it is wrapped in gold leaf if that’s the wait time. How over priced was it and how many coughs and spit blobs are included?
Yes, I do make my own.
I wasn’t addressing you Sparky, but eat whatever you want. You just be you.
You must have just recently watched “Idiocracy.”
It’s very good and for a great price. For everyone claiming how overrated they are, I would cite that I’ve NEVER seen an empty drive through at an In n Out. When I lived in San Diego/Southern Kalifornia, the one we went to was next to a Wendy’s…20-30 cars lined up at In N Out to 0-2 cars at Wendy’s. It’s not even close.
I had my doubts about In-N-Out, then I tried them. I was most favourably impressed. I thought they were better than 5 guys, whataburger, or any of the other burger joints out there.
How many California refugees are now in Idaho to create an 8 hour wait?
Patrick Mahomes is part owner of the nearest Whataburger here in KC.
