This is not uncommon. Fleets get grounded all the time. When the UH-60 Blackhawk was deployed it killed a bunch of crew before they worked the kinks out (rear stabilator issues). Not defending the Osprey, but it happens. It’s a dangerous business.
The Blackhawk has been a 40-year work-horse for all branches. I flew it for 24 years. I flew the UH-1, OH-58, and even has a few hours in the AH-1 Cobra.
Guys I know that fly the Osprey love it. But yeah, shit happens. 970 deaths from Blackhawk crashes. 50 deaths from Osprey crashes.
Why did the media brand it as trash. I mean every article you read trashes it it one way or another since it inception. I will have to deprogram myself as I feel I may been slightly biased in the past on this aircraft.
I did ride on the Skycrane during the 78 blizzard to help the Nation Guard feed cows in the deep snow. That was 2 days of hard work that left a huge love of that bird in me. Ive never been inside an Osprey, even on the ground, so who knows.
