Mom dies after taking Ozempic to lose weight for daughter's wedding

An Australian mom who wanted to slim down in time for her daughter's wedding has died after taking anti-diabetic drugs known for inducing dramatic weight loss.

Trish Webster started taking Ozempic—the trade name of an injectable medication called semaglutide developed to treat type 2 diabetes—after struggling to lose weight through traditional means, her husband Roy Webster told "60 Minutes Australia." The 56-year-old, who did not have diabetes, saw a TV ad for Ozempic and obtained a prescription from her doctor in 2022 after learning that significant weight loss was one of the drug's side effects.

"Her daughter was getting married, and she just kept mentioning that dress that she wanted to wear," Roy recalled. "So, she went into drastic measures."

Trish was on Ozempic before switching to Saxenda, a liraglutide injectable that helps with chronic weight management, according to Roy.

He said Trish lost 35 pounds in five months, but also experienced severe nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. As Roy explained, "It was one big nightmare from there."

The situation took a turn on Jan. 16, when Roy noticed "brown stuff" coming out of Trish's mouth.

"I realized she wasn't breathing," he remembered, "and I started doing CPR."

Unfortunately, his efforts were to no avail and Trish died that night. Per 60 Minutes Australia, her cause of death was listed as acute gastrointestinal illness on her death certificate.

We have substituted wine and whiskey for rice, potatoes, and yams.

I believe the self-administered shots are all pre-dosed.

Very impressive. I’m not that active. More of a workout hard for 45 minutes active. You’re my senior by 24 years too…

I’m a “pay the guys to do it “ guy…

I did used to enjoy wrenching on an older American muscle car though.
I’m thinking about getting something old as a fun project/hobby.
I’ve always liked a 1970 Chevelle SS…

They tell the public that Covid-19 vaccines are vaccines because they are vaccines.

Just like every other vaccine, a Covid vaccine presents a tiny part of a pathogen to your immune system, making your immune system think that you have a real infection. In response, your immune system goes to work analyzing the tiny pathogen bit and developing T and B cells and antibodies to counter it. Once those T and B cells and antibodies are made, they will go into action immediately if you are exposed to the intact pathogen.

Oh, you think mRNA is not part of a virus? Think again. All viruses make and use mRNA.

I know people who are successful on this. Something else seems wrong.

It's for treating type 2 diabetes. It presumes one checks their glucose level often. One just using it for the weight loss aide effect isn't likely to be doing that.

I understand the blood sugar/ketosis argument, but calories matter.
It’s easy to put away a high caloric intake that way.
It works well for some.

The “best plan” is to never get fat in the first place.

Intermittent Fasting helps. Just start by trying to increase your fasting period by 30 minutes each day for a few weeks to start out.

“I’m a “pay the guys to do it “ guy”

I’d love to be one of those, but it is SO hard to get good help that is reliable. Sounds like a cliche, but I’ve gone through a lot of people helping with the yard, and they all retire or move on. I used a woman and her crew to do pruning, weeding, and tending the beds, but she sold her business and the guy who bought it wanted $50/hour! I couldn’t believe it. I may have found a new young woman to help next spring. She’s been working for a neighbor and doing great work.

Sounds like a fun hobby. A fraternity brother way back had a ‘69 Camaro Z-28. That was a raw beast. I’d love to restore one of those. Or get my ‘76 Jeep CJ7 back and restore that!

Agree on best choice. Calories do matter, but a one pound ribeye steak has only 291.

I hope the help works out for you. No matter what, just make sure you take breaks when necessary. You’ll feel really weird if you are dying of a heart attack because you were getting decaying plant matter off of your other plant matter…

Old cars you can actually work on. My man hands fit under a muscle car hood.
I want a low tech vehicle, roll up windows and all.
No computers needed.

CJs are cool and fun. My buddy had one with a worked 360 and high ratio differential gears. It was quick…

That’s not bad. I know the lamb I get is quite fatty and high calorie.

16oz is 1160 calories…

I stand corrected. Your source shows ribeye at 1243. My bad.
Anyway, I only eat one a day. Very filling.
