The film adaptation of George Orwell’s famed 1949 novel of the same name (and current favorite reading material of America’s right wing), 1984 follows a lowly citizen living under a totalitarian regime called Oceania. The novel was first adapted for the screen in 1956, but this version is the official 1984 version of 1984. This version is considered to be the best screen adaptation of the story, remaining pretty faithful to the source material. Stream it. Big Brother is watching.

I’ve seen about 90% of those on the list. Read some replies that has some good ones that didn’t make the cosmo cut.
One comment about "The Walking Dead" shows is that the dystopia is also a kind of utopia -- an alternative intentional "green" community. That doesn't seem to be the case with most of these movies.

Lists like this are usually lame and this one is no exception. Disappointing to not see one of the best ones IMO, “BRAZIL”, directed by Terry Gilliam of Monty Python. Well, what do you expect from Cosmo which is basically trash.

I left out a couple of the movies from the Silent era, because they were futuristic, but not exactly Dystopian.
The movie “Network” stands the test of time.
That movie is more relevant now than ever.
The Road should be on there, and probably near the top.
Maybe also Dark City.

They also skipped Arnold Schwarzenegger and one of the most famous dystopian movie franchises, The Terminator series. Arnold took a lot of dystopian roles. Total Recall, End of Days, The 6th Day, Running Man...
