Please. The special effects in 2001 were not very good. People walked around on the moon just like they did on earth. In reality, astronauts chose to hop instead of walk on the moon, and they did it in 150 pound space suits. They moved slow because the pull of gravity is only one sixth what it is on earth. In the movie they moved exactly as if they were on earth, so NO, KUBRIC DID NOT FILM THE MOON LANDINGS.

Not too many folks have told Buzz Aldrin he was a phony and not been punched in the face. I kind of like him.

There is also the problem of reflections on the helmets. Although Stanley Kubrick took great care, occasionally, he would accidentally catch a reflection of the camera crew in the glass on the helmets.

on the Apollo missions, the sun visor was a gold-plated spherical mirror that caught everything that was in front of it. Here you can see Neil Armstrong, reflected in Aldrin's Visor, taking a picture of Aldrin.
