New York ranks as the world's cannabis capital, blazing through 62.3 tonnes of pot per year, with seven US cities on the global scoreboard

More cheap weed may lead to higher rates of mental health problems

New York City has ranked as the world’s cannabis capital, where denizens blaze through 62.3 tonnes of pot each year, significantly more than runners-up Sydney and Los Angeles.

The scorecard from CFAH, a wellness group, placed five other US cities in the top 20 — Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, and Denver — each consuming at least 6.8 tonnes of weed each year.

Europe and North America dominate the table. The only other country that comes close to the US is Canada, with four cities — Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Annapolis — in the rankings.

CFAH's report, the 2023 Cannabis Global Price Index, stokes fears that the legalization of cannabis across 23 US states and Washington DC is driving consumption, especially among teens and young adults.

Advocates say pot has health and social benefits, but critics say widespread use leads to higher rates of mental health problems, substance abuse and even more stoned drivers causing car crashes.

Kevin Sabet, a former White House drugs tsar who now heads the Smart Approaches to Marijuana campaign, says New York and other cities that legalize cannabis are creating problems down the road.

'When drugs are legal, their price plummets, availability soars, and the commercialization and industrialization machines take hold,' Sabet posted on social media this week.

'It's a recipe for incredible damage.'

For their league table, researchers also looked at the price of cannabis globally.

Residents of Tokyo pay the most for pot, at nearly $34 per gram. Users in Dublin, in Ireland, Tallinn, in Estonia, and the Israeli city of Rishon LeTsiyon also pay over the odds for a smoke.

Are any of those cities located in warm climates with lots of land for local cultivation. Like grow their own and not buy at the store. A true hippy would grow their own rather than pay taxes to the government. Unless of course if a person was a true communist, they would gladly pay taxes for the benefit of the common good. Yes we can of course.

MJ?

The highest drug use by state include:

Washington, D.C.
West Virginia
Missouri
New Hampshire
Michigan
New Mexico
Indiana
Rhode Island
Kentucky
Pennsylvania

https://evokewellnessfl.com/blog/cities-with-the-most-drug-users/

And that isn’t a surprise as you’ll notice the huge cities like New York and Los Angeles didn’t make the top 10. That’s only because the measurement was based on per capita of people and those two cities are so big the percentage computes out lower. That just means that D.C. made up the amounts. Three in five is a higher percentage than five in ten.

How else could a normal person (what few there are) get through daily life in the Big Rotten Apple?

Per Capita is the proper measurement.

Marijuana is not harmless, despite the endless, relentless propaganda to the contrary coming from all directions: the news media, academia, Hollywood, everywhere.

It is at least as harmful and dangerous as alcohol, and alcohol is more deadly and has a higher morbidity than any other substance.

Tetrahydrocannabanol is stored in the liver and other tissues and is time-released for weeks, even months, resulting in a permanent intoxication.

It's like being drunk on alcohol all the time.

It's no wonder that many in the cities mentioned are dysfunctional--or that the cities themselves are dysfunctional.

This is part of the decadence of Western Civilization.

Unless the population in general recognizes and acknowledges this and does something to correct this problem, it's going to get worse, and Western Civilization will continue its downward spiral into destruction.

Its THCA hemp that's taking over now. Because it's legal in almost all states. Delta8, Delta10, Thc-V, THCA, etc... All come from Hemp.

I have been in the vaping game since 2010. As nicotine-based vaping has fallen out of favor -- Hemp-based vaping, edibles, etc are all through the roof in terms of sales. All fed legal (for now) due to the Farm Act of 2018.

Unlikely this story is true. NY is in the process of converting to legalization based on a social justice model that hasn’t worked well thus far. In response a ton of bodega dealers / gray market has sprung up. A lot of weed is smoked, but it’s mostly garbage while the state gets its program online. Compared to the west coast operations NY is not at the top of revenue. Just doing a random google search, I don’t see it in the top 15.
