I swear I've done this before! Patient in Colorado films his doctor watching a YOUTUBE tutorial on how to perform medical procedure — moments before doing it on him

A Colorado man in the hospital for a broken bone revealed the moment he noticed his doctor Googling a tutorial before performing his procedure.

Joshua Bulman, 27, had suffered a bad sprain and a small fracture in his lower leg from a skateboarding incident.

'I was in my hospital bed when I looked over and saw the doctor watching a video on how to wrap an ankle and leg,' Mr Bulman, a church youth pastor said.

He shared the moment on TikTok, garnering over 1.4 million views.

In the video, Mr Bulman can be seen lying on the hospital bed before switching to his front camera. When he zoomed in on the doctor's desk, he found the physician watching a tutorial on how to wrap a leg and ankle.

He then switched the camera back to him, smiled, and said: 'Okay.'

'I just started laughing!' Mr Bulman said.

'It didn’t bother me or make me nervous. We all need refreshers on how to do things in our jobs, so I saw this as normal.'

'If anything, it actually took my mind off of the pain and injury in a good way. I needed a little laugh and I’m thankful for that moment. This doctor was simply doing her job.'

Every year, more than 70,000 skateboarding injuries, like Mr Bulman's, warrant a visit to the emergency room, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Though the doctor may have seemed uncertain, the procedure went well, and Mr Bulman's leg is healing.

No big deal. I do it all the time before working on the car.

“Be sure to check out where your doctor went to school”

That is always THE first thing I do......and everyone should for that matter.....and living in the free state of Florida helps.

No matter how experienced a pilot you are, you’re still going to use a checklist. I’m sure the doc watched the video so no damned lawyer could try to claim that he didn’t follow some published procedure and sue if anything went sideways regardless of how much common sense or experience the doc has.

Yes, youtube is your friend to be sure.....has bailed me out of many a fix......having said that, I wouldn’t want my cardiologist relying on it....would you?

Some years back I had a hideously painful procedure on one of my feet. It was done by the lead doctor in the practice and my regular doctor watched. I complained to him about the extraordinary pain and he said:

“Watch one, do one, teach one.”

Good. Better than a guess. A refresher is never bad.

I've got no problem with this whatsoever.

He doesn’t need them. That’s what autopilots are for.

“I would feel much better having a doctor studying a procedure before performing it on me ...”

I would agree if it were an uncommon procedure, but this was simply wrapping an ankle. I’m not a doctor and I would feel comfortable winging this.

I agree. Even the finest of minds could use a quick refresher on proper procedure. We are not fused with computers just yet. Better to admit not being all knowing, on all topics all of the time, vs being too proud to review.

I wouldn’t want to be that patient’s doctor, if given the choice. He’s fine with damaging his own HIPPA protections just to get a few ‘likes’ online. Seems kind of sneaky.
If he was that bothered, he should have spoken to the doctor directly, once the procedure was done.

Well I certainly wouldn’t feel safe with a pilot googling “how to land a plane” as we are descending towards our destination...

I had a doc check YouTube before tackling a buried treble hook and I did not mind.

Isn’t that the kind of thing the nurse or PA does? Not surprising if he hasn’t learned more practical things.

........never ever use trainers, checklist........

Actually, professional pilots use trainers constantly, to keep their memories and muscle memory fresh. They use checklists every time they perform a procedure, such as starting the engines. If it's a multi-pilot aircraft, it may be a two-person checklist.

It's to ensure, as far as humanly possible, they do not skip a step or make a mistake in the procedure.

At age 27 Joshua might want to consider giving up little boy activities.

I have had a single hook in my hand but never a treble. Doc just clipped off the barb and the loop and pushed it through. The freeze spray was the only painful part. That stuff hurts.

I honestly DO NOT have a problem with this.

I knew a guy who sold orthopedic equipment. Titanium objects, screws, etc that go into human bodies. He was a twenty something year old dude going into the operating room SHOWING the SURGEON how to do the procedure.
