Yes, I think Vic Morrow got decapitated or cut in half by a chopper blade?

Uncertain, but IIRC, explosives blew in an untimely manner, killing 2, Vic, and a small boy.

Spielberg RUINED “It’s a Good Life”. Changing it from a dark tale of near-omnipotence placed into the hands of an unbearable brat into a Rousseauian fantasy. COMPLETELY ruined one of the best episodes. Billy Mumy was GREAT in the original.

Yes, a low-hovering Huey helicopter destabilized by explosions crashed and killed Vic Morrow and two children...who, as I understand it, were too young to act, and whose parents had not been told of the scene they would be appearing in.

Some famous actor refused to work with that director ever again, because the director was largely responsible for the circumstances that led up to the accident, and he claimed the director laughed it off afterwards.

For those of us who grew-up watching Rod Serling’s original Twilight Zone series, this was much anticipated and a fun movie to watch.

I think that was Joe Dante, who did GREMLINS. Spielberg did the rest home segment.

It was determined that Vic Morrow had a terrible case of dandruff after they found his Head & Shoulders in the bushes.
IIRC, Jon Landis was the director of that segment.

You are right. Spielberg oversaw the project, but Dante did the directing on the segment. Wikipedia credits Richard Matheson for the screenplay. Sad, because he's done other solid work. His (and Dante's) ending is the opposite, and I am just waiting for the sequel when Anthony Freemont gets mad at Helen just once, and turn her into a puddle of pancake syrup that he eats.

A TV series reboot from a few years back treated it better, with Mumy being a 40 something Anthony Freemont in this town where little has changed, except that he has a daughter (her mom? who knows!)

Interesting! A new TWILIGHT ZONE on this? I really want to see that.

Cloris Leachman also reprises her role as anthony’s mother

I didn’t care for it. They changed the original stories enough to make them not as interesting.
