A unique home in Los Angeles County that captured the interest of California homebuyers — and started a wider conversation about the high cost of getting into the real estate market — has found a new owner. The home, located in Alhambra, was popular among home-seekers because of its modest (for California) price of $250,000. But it also made nationwide headlines due to its location: It’s built into the side of a bridge that overlooks a drainage ditch.

I thought $180,000 in California would get you residence under a bridge.

Pretty much a dump. I could see it as some kind of retail or artist hole in the wall.

Dumpy messes called home for a half a mill are pretty common on the whole left coast.

Bathroom fixtures seem to be from the 1970s.Hard to tell the vintage of the naked light bulb and the leftover brackets from the former towel rack.

Paint and fix it up a little inside and put it on the Verbo(?)/AirB&B market. May be a unique marketing thing! Still just strange, though.

With the sound of running water to make you sleep better. And the pitter-patter of people walking on your roof.

Gosh it would be a shame if the new buyer accidentally planted mandevilla and jasmine and clematis and yellow trumpet vines with hardy English ivy all along that canal. It would look like Holland in two years.

"That said, not for me. Just too damned small. I see the space for a refrigerator holds an oven instead."Kitchen needs a tear-down but the great space has opportunity. Wouldn't mind seeing the "after" pics.

Almost as cool as having a house in Highgate Cemetery, London:

don’t know the sq footage but 430,000 is nothing for a house in LA county.

It looks like a homeless shelter.

It was a paved over drainage creek until people inhabited the space directly above it.
