Russia tried to attack dam in Kryvyi Rih with Kindzhal missiles – adviser to head of Ukrainian President’s Office
Ukrainska Pravda
THURSDAY, 22 JUNE 2023, 17:19
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/06/22/7408064/

Russia is considering committing a major terrorist act in the south-east of Ukraine with the goal of creating a deserted “sanitary zone”, and with this goal tried to attack a dam in the city of Kryvyi Rih in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast with Kindzhal missiles.

SOURCE: Mykhailo Podoliak, advisor to the head of the President’s Office of Ukraine

“Russia will not be able to keep the city of Eneghodar in a medium term so it is considering a large-scale terrorist act at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in order to stop the Ukrainian counteroffensive and create a non-inhabitable sanitary grey zone, fixated for the next several years as a part of a territorial status-quo without ceasing fire,” he wrote on 22 June on Twitter.

“The attempts of Kindzhal attacks on the dam in Kryvyi Rih are also a part of this strategy,” Podoliak added.

Podoliak reminded that at the moment the ZNPP is being additionally mined, including its cooling pools.

“Whether the Kremlin implements this scenario depends exclusively on the reaction of the international community. Red lines must be drawn, the consequences must be announced. Not tomorrow. Today,” he stressed.

BACKGROUND:

We have launched English Twitter! Follow us!

On 21 June, Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, reported that the Russians mined a cooler of the ZNPP.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) does not confirm the mining of the cooler of the ZNPP but states that the perimeter and some places inside the ZNPP have been mined.

On 22 June, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, reported that the Defence Intelligence received the information that Russia considers committing a terrorist act at the ZNPP with radiation outburst.

The Kryvyi Rih dam was already attacked by the Russians in 2022. In the middle of September the Russians struck the dam and damaged two sluices. Due to this, a leakage of water with the speed of 240 cubes a second occurred. The water level in the Inhulets River rose over two metres. There was also a threat that two districts of the city, in which 150,000 people lived, would simply be swept away by the water.

1. ‘Army of Drones’: Ukrainian Military Destroys Russian Equipment in Devastating Unmanned Strikes

Witness the devastating power of Ukraine’s ‘Army of Drones’ as Russian equipment worth millions is obliterated in just two days. Tanks, missile systems, and command vehicles are no match for the precision strikes of ‘Achilles’ drones. With 10,000 operators trained and more to come, Ukraine’s drone capabilities continue to expand. The successful usage of a Ukrainian-produced drone with a range of a thousand kilometers adds to their capabilities.

Ukraine’s defense industry gains momentum as negotiations with international manufacturers progress. The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ relentless efforts have destroyed over 4,000 tanks since Russia’s full-scale war began. Support from allies, including Denmark and Germany, reinforces Ukraine’s defense against enemy attacks.

2. Russian Soldiers are Fleeing from the Front Line as the Ukrainian Army is Advancing towards Crimea!

When we examine in detail the developments in the Russian-Ukrainian war that has been going on for about a year and a half, we can clearly see the shortcomings behind Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s plans to invade Ukraine. The most important shortcoming behind this decision is undoubtedly Putin’s lack of support from the Russian people and army.

It is almost impossible for leaders who do not have the support of the people and the army to succeed in war. Indeed, the events of the last few days prove this conclusion to be correct. Because Russian soldiers are rapidly leaving the front lines and the Russian people are constantly calling for an end to the war!

Since the beginning of its occupation of Ukraine, Russia has been subjected to sanctions by Western and European countries. So much so that Russia has been the most sanctioned country in the history of the world. This has severely affected the Russian economy and military. Russia has suffered serious problems and losses both at the front and at home.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian army has grown stronger day by day. Ukrainian leader Zelensky has the support of the Ukrainian people and army, as well as the support of Western and European countries, and is making history!

The spring offensive, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been preparing for a long time, seems to have started these days. In the last few months, the Russian invaders have suffered their biggest losses since the beginning of the war. The Ukrainian army is moving decisively towards its goal.

Indeed, the Ukrainian army recently announced that it has cleared the village of Piatykhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region from the Russian occupiers! This village is one of the shortcuts to Crimea. Ukraine’s ultimate goal is to liberate Crimea! General Valery Zaluzhny, one of the top commanders of the Ukrainian army, announced on his social media account that the village of Piatykhatky was cleared of Russian occupiers.

Russian officials also made statements about the loss of this region. One of them was Vladimir Rogov, the Russian official in charge of the Zaporizhzhya region. In his post on his Telegram account, Rogov explained the loss of Piatykhatky village as follows: “The enemy’s ‘wave-like’ offensive has yielded results despite enormous losses.”

The Ukrainian army’s capture of the village of Piatykhatky is likely to strengthen its advance in the region. This is because the capture of this village could enable Ukrainian forces to advance towards Vasylivka on the Crimean highway and from there reach Crimea, Ukraine’s ultimate goal. The Ukrainian army’s strategic offensives is pushing the Russian occupiers into a corner every day!

Sorry, had to laugh my ass off here. The two sluices were hit with US MADE -US GIVEN and probably US FIRED - HIMARS. Even my little dog who cannot read knows this. The rest of your shrill is just as accurate I presume.

The destruction of a major dam near Kherson could be a game-changer for Ukraine’s special operators
Business Insider
Stavros Atlamazoglou

https://www.businessinsider.com/destruction-of-nova-kakhovka-dam-could-help-ukraine-special-operations-2023-6

- In early June, the destruction of a dam caused flooding along the Dnieper River in southern Ukraine.
- Russia is suspected of destroying the dam to disrupt Ukrainian military operations in the area.
- But the flooding altered nearby shorelines and waterways, which may end up aiding Ukrainian forces.

In early June, explosions ruptured the Nova Kakhovka dam and hydroelectric station, unleashing a reservoir containing several billion gallons of water and flooding cities and towns along the Dnieper River in southern Ukraine.

The destruction of the Soviet-designed dam appears to have been orchestrated by Russian forces, likely in an effort to deny Ukrainian troops access to territory nearby as their long-awaited counteroffensive kicked off.

But the torrent of water flowing down the Dnieper toward the important city of Kherson has reshaped the surrounding waterways and forced the Russian military to pull back from certain places.

An altered shoreline, a larger maritime area, and fewer Russian troops could benefit Ukraine. Indeed, the destruction of the dam could be a game-changer for Ukraine’s special-operations forces.

A SPECIAL-OPERATIONS ‘PLAYGROUND’

The rapid emptying of the reservoir has revealed the remnants of past battles, including a human skull that appeared to be wearing a World War II-era German helmet. Downstream, there are now tens of thousands of hectares of new maritime battle-space.

The Russian military has already had to relocate troops from the area in response to Ukrainian attacks elsewhere, and patrolling and protecting the new coastline will create another challenge for Russian forces — and a potential opening for Ukraine.

“While Russia may now see the terrain south of Kherson as safe, Ukrainian special operators should see opportunity. With new coastline and fewer opposing forces, the southern Kherson oblast could become a special operations playground,” Timothy Heck and Zachary Griffiths, both US military officers, wrote in an article for the Modern War Institute at West Point.

New and larger waterways will make it easier for Ukrainian special operators to move men and equipment around by boat. With easier access, Ukrainian commandos operating from around Kherson could use drones and missiles to threaten Russian communications and supply lines to Crimea, according to Heck and Griffiths.

Ukrainian troops in the area could also use shoulder-fired missiles to threaten Russian aircraft flying to and from Crimea, potentially forcing them to use longer routes instead.

“As Russia draws significant sustainment from Crimea, disrupting lines of communications with increased special operations in southern Kherson could certainly support the Ukrainian counteroffensive,” Heck and Griffiths write.

Ukrainian special operators have been very active in Kyiv’s ongoing counteroffensive in the Donbas region and southern Ukraine.

A recent video appears to show commandos from Ukraine’s 73rd Naval Center of Special Operations, a secretive Navy SEAL-like unit, clearing a Russian trench and killing several Russian troops during fighting in southern Ukraine.

In addition to direct-action missions, Ukrainian special operators have been using one-way attack drones to disrupt and degrade Russian forces by destroying heavy weapons, including main battle tanks, artillery pieces, and armored personnel vehicles.

But Ukrainian commandos could soon find themselves supporting an amphibious operation in southern Ukraine.

UKRAINE’S COMMANDOS AND AMPHIBIOUS OPERATIONS

Ukrainian military leaders have certainly thought about a major amphibious operation across the Dnieper River. Recent security assistance shows that Ukraine’s NATO partners have had similar thoughts.

In March, the White House approved a package of military aid that included armored vehicle-launched bridges, heavy-duty systems that travel with armored columns and allow them to cross rivers, streams, ditches, and trenches.

What makes the armored vehicle-launched bridges particularly useful is their ability to disengage and redeploy across another obstacle.

Germany has also committed 23 Beaver bridge-laying tanks and 20 heavy and medium bridge systems. In addition, the UK put out an “urgent bidding round” to industry for medium Girder bridges, bridge launchers, and reusable bridges that can support Ukraine’s new M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and Challenger 2 and Leopard 2 tanks.

Should the Ukrainian military go ahead with an amphibious operation in Kherson or Crimea, naval commandos will play a key role in scouting, surveying, and clearing potential beaches. They could also be used to distract Russian forces by launching diversionary raids elsewhere on the battlefield.

The Ukrainian counteroffensive is still in the early stages, but judging from what has already been seen, special-operations forces will be a vital part of Kyiv’s push to liberate its land and people.

Why is Denny on YouTube the only source for information that Ukraine is winning. I’m not saying they aren’t but it seems sketchy at best.

I have spent a number of hours reading the history of the Kerch Bridge (completed by Putin in 2018), viewing the explosion and fire that destroyed part of the bridge (probably caused by a truck bomb), and information on partial completion of repairs with repairs of the train bridge to be ready in Sept. 2023. This bridge is a major accomplishment by Putin, and the explosion was a major blow to his ego. The “bridge” is 2 parallel bridges. One is a 4 lane highway with 2 lanes going east and 2 lanes going west. The other has 2 railway tracks.

The explosion displaced several hundred feet of sections of one two lane portion, and it was feared had damaged part of the other two lane portion. Two lanes were restored to function relatively quickly. Early in 2023, the destroyed two lane portion was fully restored and 4 lane traffic was resumed. The explosion on the road bridge also set fire to tank cars loaded with fuel located above on the rail bridge. This burned for many hours, but subsequently it was decided passenger trains, which weigh less than freight trains, could be run on one rail line. Completion of both rail repairs are were predicted at the time the road bridge reopened to occur this September. Since heavy equipment cannot be carried by either bridge, large ferries used before there was a bridge have been used to resupply the military.

Loss of strong roads and bridges on the north border of Crimea are a major blow to the RUssian military. Bombing of the ferries could hurt as well. It will make sense for Ukraine to NOT bomb the bridge so long as it cannot carry heavy equipment. Now that the water supply to Crimea has been cut by the Dam explosion disaster, Ukraine will not want to be responsible for a large thirsty population should they gain control of Crimea. People from Crimea are already leaving in droves by way of the Kerch Bridge, adios RUssian occupiers and real estate speculators. Prior to the bombing, the record for cars crossing the bridge was 35,000. Today I saw a report that one of Russia’s top leaders owns at least 50 units of housing in a half dozen different properties there. It sucks to be part of Putin’s regime when things go wrong!

Ancient and effective strategy. Make it impossible for a enemy to hold ground, and leave them a way out. Ukraine has made significant strikes on Russian logistical hubs and choke points. Hitting the bridges like this makes it harder to moving heavy equipment into Kherson, while leaving an exit.
