BOSTON (NewsNation) — The Horizon Arctic’s ROV discovered a “debris field” on the sea floor near the Titanic wreckage during a search effort Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The government agency said experts within the unified command were analyzing the information, but the debris has not yet been identified.
A Coast Guard presser has been scheduled for 3 p.m. ET to discuss the findings.

Psalm 107:23-31
King James Version
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit’s end.
28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Wonder if it is indeed from the submersible, will it be identifiable with pieces big enough to recognize and verify?
“I’m sorry, Captain. It can only be the ‘HORATIO’” —Worf, when encountering a debris field.
I wondered about that too given how small the thing is and huge debris field it’s in.
I would imagine it will be identifiable
Could be unrelated but given the magnitude of and interest in this new event, I suspect the authorities also suspect that that it is indeed the last remains of the vehicle and passengers.
The surroundings of the Titanic are well mapped. They even found shoes from the Titanic, so the area is flat and looks like a bare sand beach. Anything new will be noticed. This is new. Also, yes, they will be able to identify lots of pieces. I don’t think the Coast Guard would release this information if they weren’t confident, they’d found the sub.
Can’t decide if I’d rather have gone down with the Titanic or been crushed to death on the Titan. Probably the later since at least be sudden and quick.
Besides we taxpayers, who else is going to pay for these search efforts?
It seems to me that those people who intentionally engage in highly risky adventures need to produce a bond to cover any search costs if a search is required.
If they do not produce a bond, then they must sign a waiver.
Don’t think Coast Guard would have released this info if it was incorrect.
Titanic has been surveyed so many times, they know where all Titanic debris
are and what is new debris.
Was this submersible a single room vessel? I mean, no chance of separate watertight compartments where passengers might have taken refuge and still be safe yet? I know, grasping at straws....
“History shows again and again
How nature points out the folly of men.”
Single compartment approximately the size of a mini van.
Someone described it as having about as much room as a small SUV. It was one cylinder. The sub guy I follow on YouTube said that carbon fiber shatters when it fails. When it failed, they didn’t live but a few seconds. Probably long enough to recall the number of times “death” was mentioned in the waiver. (Three times.)
A lawyer I just listened to mentioned enough evidence to indicate gross incompetence and negligence on the part of the company that owned and operated the sub. Not to mention they didn’t want any “fifty-year-old white men” involved.
I hope it was quick and painless for them.
From another article on this incident: “When you’re talking 6,000 pounds per square inch, it is a dangerous environment. More people have been to outerspace than to this depth of the ocean.” This sub operator was incredibly reckless.
In reality, you’ll have the surviving $Billionaire families suing an entity with no real assets.
One second you’re there, a split second later you’re not.
