The unnamed 43-year-old woman was getting ready to go for a run on the Whistle Stop Trail, a countryside rail trail that runs through central Maine, when the lurking cow sprang upon her.
“Officers met with the female, who reported that she had been charged by the male bovine as she prepared for a jog,”
“She was lifted off the ground by the animal’s horns but was able to escape into the nearby tree line,”
The woman was left with a cut that needed stitches, but she was not taken to the hospital, the network said.

Am I wrong about this? Isn’t a “male bovine” a bull?

Could be a steer, doubt she thought to check how he was hanging.
But then again, not sure how this bovine gender affirmed. /sarc

We haven’t heard the gender preference of the bovine. We need to hear from the bovine.

In the article, the police report refers to the animal as a "male bovine". Now you have to wonder what kind of training the police officers go through to identify anything.
And of course the officer may now be facing investigation for assuming the gender that the animal wants to be today. It's a brave new world out there.

Yep, unless it’s a steer (like a RINO, got no balls)
I looked at the picture couldn’t see any horns and it’s haunches aren’t muscular. Not a good picture so this means almost nothing
Could be a young bull or a cow considering city wouldn’t know the difference.

Maybe ‘he’ was transgendered.
We learned about that in High School Ag class.

You are quite correct.
City folks aren’t so savvy.

Good thing it wasn’t a bull moose. Or even a cow.

when the lurking cow sprang
That is a serious danger of working around cattle -- including cows, steers and bulls. They do like to spring at unsuspecting humans. And they like to lurk.
Nothing any worse than a lurking cow getting ready to spring.
A lot of ranchers even have signs in their pastures:
Be Wary of Lurking Cows.
Be Wary of Cows Getting Ready to Spring.

Pretty sure it’s a steer and it looked polled (no horns) to me also.
Owner is likely to have to pay for the lady’s medical care.

Isn’t a “male bovine” a bull?
These days it depends on the bull's sexual orientation I recon. So a new bull is delivered to a ranch and when he is unloaded the two bulls on the ranch look at him and say, good grief look at the size of that bull. So one of the bulls says excuse me and starts humping a cow. The other bull says, dude you're gonna tick of that big bull they are bring in. And his reply was, at least he'll know I am a bull.
