A few years ago,while on a photo safari to Kenya,I had the chance to talk,at length,to our Kenyan guide during the long drives to the parks. Long story short...he got to talking about Somalia and Somalis and he made it clear that he hated them.He told of the many horrendous...and deadly...problems they caused in Kenya (Kenya shares a border with Somalia).

And then there's that Somali moslem whore serving in the House at the moment.

I've never been to Africa but looking at the World Almanac Somalia compares poorly even to its neighbors which aren't very well off.

Somalia's infant mortality rate (88 per 1,000 live births) is one of the worst in the world (although not as bad as Afghanistan's). Its per capita income is one of the lowest in Africa, if not the lowest. The life expectancy is also lower than its neighbors (53.0 years for men and 57.7 for women vs. 67.7 and 71.0 for Kenya and 65.8 and 70.1 for Ethiopia). Undernourished: 59.5% in Somalia vs. 24.8% in Kenya and 16.2% in Ethiopia.

Most of Somalia was an Italian colony before independence. The former British Somaliland wants to regain its independence but I don't think they have succeeded in getting any other country to recognize them--conditions may be a little better in that area.
