uh well along with my special prosecutor, we got the report from the santa fe County Sheriff's office. We initiated an extensive review of that and I will say that it was *** it was *** well investigated case, but we had some follow up that we had to do had to speak with some experts and and once we read through everything and researched the case law and the law here in New Mexico, we realized that we believe that there was probable cause to charge alec baldwin and Hannah Guterres, read with involuntary manslaughter. And what were some of the key pieces of evidence that you used that factored into that decision? Well that there was such *** lack of safety and safety standards on that set um that there were live rounds on set. They were mixed in with regular dummy rounds, nobody was checking those or at least they weren't checking them consistently. And then they somehow got loaded into *** gun handed off to alec baldwin, He didn't check it, he didn't do any of the things that he was supposed to do to make sure that he was safe or that anyone around him was safe.....

Guns, however, have the specific function of ending a life, and “gross negligence” in that context, failing to verify that the gun was cold, and cavalierly pointing it at someone, ever, is inexcusable. He could have “rehearsed” with his finger.
If you believe that Baldwin should get 6.5 years in prison over something like this, there is no way we can understand each other’s POV. Because that is the prison sentence Baldwin is looking at for not rehearing with his finger.
If he serves five minutes in jail, I’ll be amazed. 6.5 years would be excessive, but one year would fit. The protag in Johnny Cash’s song hung for his moment’s carelessness with a gun. I wouldn’t call for that, but he did widow her husband and orphan her son. There must be consequences.
They’re resuming production of Rust soon, ironically a drama about an accidental shooting. I wouldn’t see it, but he’ll make a few mil off of it for sure, maybe because of this scandal.

How’s that? An employee, the “armerer” was in charge of the weapon that was given to Baldwin. Why would Baldwin think he was given a loaded weapon.
The only bizarre aspect of this case is that Baldwin says he didn’t pull the trigger.
Suppose I hand you a real gun. And suppose I’m a firearms expert. I assure you that the gun is safe, and you can aim it at someone and pull the trigger. You do so, and kill someone.
I’m surely at fault. But so are you. I handed you a real gun. The instant you accepted it, you had a duty to check it on your own. In a way, it’s like a nurse who is to give a powerful pill to Mr. A in room 200.
That nurse has a duty to check that it’s really Mr. A in room 200. But suppose she just gives the pill to whomever is in room 200. After all, it says Mr. A on the chart. And the patient is not Mr. A. The pill kills him.
In either situation, it’s not murder. But as I see it, it’s negligence to a level that deserves a criminal charge. Of course a jury will make the final call. So who knows?

Not exactly a germane parallel. Not that doctors and nurses don’t make mistakes but any nurse worth their RN and not looking at a possible criminal charge of negligence would always ask the patient a medication is intended their date of birth.
That’s how any nurse would be assured they have the right patient.

There is such a thing as negligent homicide—always has been.
The details matter in each case—what is the reasonable care that should have been taken given all the circumstances.
If an electrician is drinking on the job and then botches the job so badly that customers get electrocuted then that should be negligent homicide.
Shame, really. These men had talent and made good plays and movies.
I miss that in today's performers.
I saw a few snippets of the re-make of Producer. It was horrible.
Combined with a thoroughly debased culture I hardly would believe today's younger generation would find something like "The Producers'' to be worth watching. Heck, they might even find it to be ''offensive''.
That is not what Baldwin was charged with.
