Well this video has the chorus of "everybody is effed up" at the end of the song.

I don’t have a problem with a lot of the Beatles’ catalogue, but I never saw the fascination with this musically dreary, lyrically opaque piece.

At the time, I imagine the experimentation with unusual sounds in records coincided with extreme forms of modern art and nihilist/existential theatre. Most of it has not aged well.

I probably still have the 45 I bought when it came out.

I was a Beatle nut.

I didn’t know what the actual chant at the end was until much later. Probably a good thing.

Heh heh. A lot of people just as smart as us might disagree.

I always thought it said, "smoke pot, smoke pot, everybody smoke pot"

But I was always pretty clueless, particularly about 1970's lyrics. I finally began to really hear them around age 40.

Put me in the camp of “not aged well” for later Beatles music.

The earlier Beatles is timeless.

Yeah, and back then a six pack between two of us was a big buzz. As long as the song got me in firm grip on the girl I was dating, I really didn’t listen. I was on hormonal autopilot.

Most of it has not aged well

You can say that again! LOL! I liked anything Beatles back in the day. Now I see so much of it was just garbage and only popular because it was the Beatles that produced and performed it. Fortunately they put out far more good stuff than bad stuff.

Perhaps my favorite Beatle song, certainly top 5.

I always enjoyed the cello in this one. The cello acts as a unifying force, a dark though guiding light among purposeful disharmony. A dirge surronded by confetti.
