Mike Reid wrote this song with Allen Shamblin.

Interesting guy. Mike was from Altoona and played DT at Penn State where he won the Outland Trophy and finished 5th in the Heisman balloting in 1969. Even at linebacker size today (6'2 235) he was so dominate that he once recorded 3 safeties in one game.

PSU didn't lose a game his last 2 seasons, and in between, he asked (and was granted) to be excused from spring practice so he could participate in a musical on campus.

He was drafted by the Bengals w/ the 7th overall pick and played 5 years - 3 as an all pro. Then he quit and moved to Nashville where he started playing backroom bars and wound up in their songwriters hall of fame.

KEYWORDS: nashville; nfl
Mike also wrote and performed "Walk on Faith", which remains an amazing lesson in life to this day.

Mike Reid is simple excellent. Remember- he was NFL Cincinnati Bengals All-Star defensive linebacker (a huge guy with huge hands who plays a fantastic piano as a result). Great at football, great at Country music (Walk on Faith, with cajun sound shuffle music and football inspirational wide out receiver “practice film” combined)!. Excellence.

Some others he has written: “Stranger in My House” for Ronnie Milsap!” and the trucker’s tune- “Prisoner of the Highway” again the great Milsap who co-wrote with Reid several others.

Mike Reid was a beast as a player. He cut down after his football days.

He’s considered by many PSU fans/alums as the greatest defensive player they’ve seen. He was that good.

I recently bought the original vinyl recording. Mike is definitely a doubly gifted man.
