As summer comes to a close, we turn our collective attention toward the colder months of the year and Farmers’ Almanac’s trusty predictions but unfortunately, it’s not looking good!

A colder-than-usual winter is expected to arrive much sooner: good news for snow lovers, but not so good for the rest of us!

According to the outlet’s extended forecast, the United States can expect quite a few winter weather disturbances throughout the season. The Farmers’ Almanac goes into specific dates, including:

Overall, the Farmers’ Almanac predicts a snow-heavy winter across the nation. Those in highest cold-weather peril will find themselves in the middle of an active storm track that is predicted to run from the western Gulf of Mexico all the way to the northeast, across the Virginias and touching upon New York state and New England, all areas that are used to bracing for the coldest winter across the country. …

The Indians here in Texas are predicting a tough winter also. They claim that this year they have been seeing the white men out in the forests gathering heap big firewood.

I’m on Gulf Coast in MS - mentioned to the wife the other day we may have a colder winter because there’s been a lot of Canadian Geese around since mid August

That sounds like every winter in MN. during my 73 year observation period.
40 below is 40 below, happens every winter.

If hasn’t been referred to as Global Warming for quite some time now. It’s man-made climate change, as that requires far less explaining why it’s cold and not warm, but can also be used when it is hot. Get with the program man. 😋

when we get a stretch of lows near 50 and highs below 80 while it’s still August and September, it should be very obvious for those long-lived enough that this will be one of the most brutal winters of our lifetimes

you need to prepare for TSHTF on winter weather - be prepared to get snowed in for weeks at a time without power

I learned that about geese a long time ago. I am in SE Texas and when you start hearing geese at night, cold weather is coming. So, if this prediction is true, a lot of us are going to be in for quite a shock with our heating bills this winter.
Again, brandon is screwing the American public.

And the going without power is as likely as not going to be due to mismanagement as anything.

But you are correct. Now is the time to prepare.

I saw a wooly worm last week that was completely black. A sure sign of a hard winter.

Last year was the first year in about 8 years that we had decent snowfall that was just right for sledding in. Had fun playing in it, too.

Gotta love misheard lyrics. When I was a kid I thought Warren was singing:

You better stay away from him, he'll rip your lungs out Jim
Huh, I'd like to meet his tailor Liz Taylor

One has to do with reading old bones & tea leaves

My neighbor split open persimmon seeds for three years in a row and found spoon patterns. Spoon = shovel = lots of snow. We hardly got any snow.

My other neighbor remarked on how many acorns there were one Fall and said it means long cold Winter. We had a short warm Winter.

“Manmade global warming” isn’t the go to phrase anymore.

Correct. They now call it "Climate Change" so no matter if it gets extra hot or if it gets extra cold, they're covered either way. Clever.

“We see good potential for heavy snow that may reach as far south as Texas and Oklahoma, followed by a sweep of bitterly cold air,”

Yet, the map shows, “Chilly Normal Precipitation” for Texas and Oklahoma.

Bitterly cold is not chilly so which is it?

Folks in the Rockies and across the Plains are going to see a whole lot of snow during the first week of January 2023. “We see good potential for heavy snow that may reach as far south as Texas and Oklahoma, followed by a sweep of bitterly cold air,” reads the Almanac.

Well, they sure need the precipitation. Lake Mead is almost empty.
