An egg a day can help maintain vitamin D levels in winter

Eating an egg every day in winter can help keep your vitamin D levels up, new research has found.

As many as one in three Australian adults may have vitamin D deficiency. It can lead to fatigue, aches, muscle weakness, mood changes and an increased risk of contracting respiratory infections.

"Vitamin D deficiency can have a negative impact on bone health as the key function of vitamin D is to promote calcium absorption," says research lead, Professor Robin Daly.

"Vitamin D deficiency may also increase the risk of other non-skeletal diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, depression and Alzheimer's disease," Prof. Daly says.

Vitamin D is difficult to source from foods. People with low vitamin D levels are often prescribed supplements. Eggs are one of the few foods that are a naturally rich source of vitamin D.

"Weekly consumption of seven eggs was an effective dietary approach to optimize vitamin D levels during the winter months when sunlight hours decline," says Prof. Daly of the IPAN study's findings.

The study is the first to investigate the dose-response relationship between eating commercially available free-range eggs and blood vitamin D levels in Australian adults.

Fifty-one adults aged 25–40 years were randomly assigned to three groups that were asked to consume either two, seven or 12 eggs per week for 12 weeks.

But won't eating an egg every day increase your blood cholesterol? As well as measuring blood vitamin D levels, the research team also looked at changes in blood lipids. Prof Daly said there were no significant adverse effects on cholesterol.

Participants found it relatively easy to eat the eggs as part of their daily diets.

"The simple strategy of eating an egg a day could help prevent health complications caused by vitamin D deficiencies."

LDL isn’t bad. OXIDISED LDL is bad. LDL is oxidised by high carb diets and seed oils.

You need LDL to transport cholesterol to where it’s needed - like the brain.

I know, I already corrected myself further upthread.

I'm always getting the HDL and LDL mixed up.

LDL = Good
HDL = Bad

No. You still haven’t got it!

HDL is good.
LDL is good.
OXIDISED LDL is bad.

Eggs are good eating. A little tablet of 5,000 IU is more effective. D3 and Zinc cocktail is great for preventing catching Covid.

Sorry, I give up!

I just know that eating eggs and butter will help my cholesterol overall. I'll leave the HDL/LDL/OXIDISED LDL to the experts.

its all a scam.

so sick of these people telling me everyday what’s good what’s bad then only to have that contradicted by another gov. funded group the following year.

Eat and drink normal, not in excess.

There you go.

Solved.

4000 IU is like a max. It’s just too easy to get from natural sources.

Farm boys generally get lots of sun, much richer source that any food. Recently doctors are realizing that higher blood levels are probably needed for good immunity, whereas lower levels can prevent rickets. A Turkish Covid study found that no one they tested in a hospital had OPTIMUM blood D levels of 30 or higher ng/mL (nanograms per milliliter). So get yourself blood tested and take enough D to get to OPTIMUM. For me as a 140 lb woman, I have to take 5,000IU a day in winter (that is 125 mcg. of D3 a day). I think the drug companies don’t want us at optimum so have shifted from IU to mcg. to confuse us.

An Australian study on D levels of egg yoke (whole eggs) in birds living indoors, outdoors, or indoors with outdoors option. Outdoors birds had 3 or 4 times as much D. Store bought “free range” eggs had lower levels than the ones used in the study.

Free-range farming: a natural alternative to produce vitamin D-enriched eggs

Abstract
Objective: Food-based strategies need to be developed to improve the vitamin D status of individuals. Recent studies identified ultraviolet B irradiation as an efficient method to enrich mushrooms and eggs with vitamin D. The aim of this study was to determine whether free-range farming of hens could provide a valuable method to produce vitamin D-enriched eggs.

Methods: Laying hens were randomly assigned to three groups of 33 to 34 animals each, and were kept either indoors (indoor group), outdoors (outdoor group), or with an indoor/outdoor option (indoor/outdoor group) over 4 wk.

Results: The study shows that the vitamin D3 content of egg yolk was three- to fourfold higher in the groups that were exposed to sunlight (outdoor and indoor/outdoor groups) compared with the indoor group (P < 0.001). Egg yolk from the outdoor group revealed the highest vitamin D3 content, which averaged 14.3 μg/100 g dry matter (DM), followed by that from the indoor/outdoor group (11.3 μg/100 g DM). Yolk from indoor eggs contained only 3.8 μg vitamin D/100 g DM. The 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D3) content of egg yolk was also influenced by sunlight exposure, although less pronounced than the vitamin D content (P < 0.05). In contrast, free-range eggs randomly acquired from supermarkets had relatively low vitamin D contents.

Conclusion: Free-range farming offers an efficient alternative to fortify eggs with vitamin D, provided that farming conditions are sufficiently attractive for hens to range outside.

Don’t forget to add Vitamin C to protect the lungs and produce white blood cells. Dr. Robert Cathcart recommends 4 grams a day for healthy people, more for illness. I have been taking 4 to 7 grams a day for allergies (mold, dust, cigarette smoke). Ten days after attending a Chinese restaurant party where a dozen vaccinated people passed dishes around to share different foods, my nose started to run like a faucet. This was last Christmas week. It was clear thin mucous. Over 24 hours, I took around 12 to 14 grams of Vitamin C, and it completely cleared up and no other symptoms. So, did I have a light attack of Covid? I was also taking Quercetin, zinc, and my usual handful of supplements which includes magnesium and all the other basics.

I agree, I think Fauci caused Trump to drop the virus stopper zinc from the conversation, after Dr. Zelenko sent his 3 part protocol for treating early Covid with HCQ, zinc, and Azithromycin for 5 days (a $20 dollar treatment). Instead Fauci was getting ready to promote high priced ($3000) remdesivir which turned out to not be very effective. All provided free with our tax dollars. In fact the Turkish study I mentioned in another comment tested IV Vitamin C (probably 24 grams/24 hours) and found significant reduction of time spent hospitalized. That study also used the original Zelenko protocol plus Vitamin D and C. More recently Dr. Z has recommended Azithromycin or more readily available Quercetin, Zinc, and Doxycycline for early Covid treatment.

As I've said before ....there were both "preventatives" AND "cures" for this covid crap from day one. But from day one the MSM and social media networks have stifled the attempt of doctors and immune experts to get this onfo out there....while the sales of vaccine stocks went up by the millions.

MILLIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE died who did not have to - MURDER BY THE WHO AND CDC AND FAUCI!...IMHO

In the last line of my comment #58, I mistakenly wrote “Azithromycine”. I meant to write IVermeCTIN.. Dr. Z has more recently recommended using even safer Doxycycline as the antibiotic to protect lungs from bactarial rather than Azithromycin.
