Is such a thing even possible? Yes, it is.

The point was that as I started writing that post I remembered my #8 Jointer Plane (heavy critter, but very satisfying to use) and thought why not place a soft shoe on a heavy wooden block (got some of those old planes too) and use it to push around grit to smooth and true stone surfaces?

Then, having pondered that I recalled my moulding plane which, or rather an ever finer series of which, could present a solution for fine radius corners.

These, discounting providing the flow of grit slurry, would be mechanically simple tools but might work to produce the desired results.

These types of things were achieved by using chunks of the same kinds of stones, and time, and by using copper “saws” which used an abrasive sand as a cutting medium. And no, this isn’t some kind of novel explanation. The abrasive sand method remained in use for a long while, and was a commodity still in trade in Roman times.

Anyway, here’s wiki-page on the pyramid itself.

"They used saws," was the first thing that popped into my mind when I started watching. Mr K - who majored in geology/archaeology - said he thought it was saws, too.

Remember: In ancient times, slave labor was okay and normal. They may not have developed a diamond-edged tool, but they did have guys who would gladly sit and wear out one blade after another all day long, for as long as it took, to make one cut.

More recent history is full of examples of peoples who are widely-separated as far as geographic and cultural distance, but develop the same advances - maybe at different times, but to all appearances without any sort of contact. Let me add, however, that I don't discount tales of wanderers teaching stuff that they know to people they encounter in their wandering.

You don't have to be a crack engineer to describe something you've seen in one land to a clever person in another land sufficiently so that he gets it and - VOILA!! - suddenly a "discovery" is made.

Set: I can see up your skirt.

One other explanation would be the painted flat human figures and the very life like three dimensional human sculptures were crafted by peoples of very different time periods.

Perhaps there were *conventions* for 2D vs 3D representation. Something like the conventions of iconography in a culture known to be capable of representational and perspective work.

Some ancient icons combine a background in perspective with a stylized human figure.

People are not “evolving” and getting better and smarter. They are declining in terms of health, intelligence, etc. Further from God’s original perfect couple.
Systems wear out, run down and cease to function.
Why should man be so conceited as to think he/they/we are more smart than those who came 1000s of years before?
Many mysteries in our little corner of solar system.

Agreed. We are farther from Eden. Saying that I would love to have the funds to put together a team of engineers, craftsman and just dang smart people to try to recover/ recreate the ingenuity of the ancients. I suspect it might take a generational approach to knowledge.

I do think that dumber Egyptians built upon things from antiquity they could not recreate. I can’t build a corvette but I might be able to keep one running for a long time. Just saying.
