The death toll from Tuesday's shooting at a Texas elementary school has risen to 19 students and two teachers - all murdered by an 18-year-old gunman.
The gunman was shot dead by a heroic Border Patrol agent who ran into the school with a tactical support team and killed him while he was barricaded inside, and exchanging gunfire with other Texas law enforcement officers.
The gunman, Salvador Ramos - wearing body armor, equipped with a handgun and possibly a rifle - shot his grandmother before entering the school and opening fire, said Governor Greg Abbott.
The grandmother was airlifted to hospital and her condition was unknown.
One of the teachers was named by her family as Eva Mireles, 44. The second has not been named.
Ramos, who was born in North Dakota but lived in Uvalde, was a student at Uvalde High School, Abbott said.
Ramos's young victims were aged between seven and 11, CNN's Ed Lavandera reported.
On Tuesday night the father of 10-year-old Annabelle Guadalupe Rodriguez said that she was still missing.
'He shot and killed - horrifically and incomprehensibly - 14 students and killed a teacher,' Abbott said at a press briefing. The death toll was later revised to 18 children.
'There are families that are in mourning right now. And the state of Texas is in mourning with them.'
It was the deadliest such incident since 14 high school students and three adult staff were killed in Parkland, Florida in 2018 - and the worst at an elementary school since the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting in Connecticut, in which 20 children and six staff were killed.

How about just locking the doors. I’m boggled why we can’t even seem to provide basic security at elementary schools. In the seventies the school I went to suffered race riots and was closed for the remainder of the year. The net year there were guards at the entrances and metal detectors. This was 50 years ago. Want to stop this violence? Harden the schools, period.
Unfortunately, that’s not how the system works today. The mental health providers or even LEOs cannot take action until that person actually harms themselves or someone else.
They know it can happen any second, but their hands are often tied too.

This is a wonderful thing to do . Every Church, every school, every place where children gather, should have this kind of security.
We can no longer depend on government entities to protect our children.

Happily, in my search, I see the ND Governor signed a law to make the whole state a 2nd Amendment Sactuary State!
Thank you for your comments about your situation. You are very wise in your decision to stay physically away from this insanity. Not so long ago, if a man wanted to undergo hormone treatments and surgery to look more like a woman beyond dressing up & cosmetics & pretty wigs, he had to go through intensive psychological evaluation to figure out the source of the dysphoria. Women go thru this, too, but seems more rare (Chastity Bono was sexually abused as a child by the nanny and Ellen DeGeneres says she was sexually abused by her stepfather).
I have read detailed accounts where I felt great sympathy for what happened to these people as babies, children, that messed them up so badly. The honest ones who went all the way will tell you it didn’t “fix” them and many regret what they did. Now the young ones are being groomed to embrace their dysphoria, ‘No Questions Asked’ by the Professionals any more, for something most would outgrow after adolescence with actual help. Instead, they are railroaded into painful deadly hormone treatments and surgery that just adds to the underlying suffering.
If we don’t stop this Soul Killing Agenda, more and more families will face this Evil. Our “tolerance” over the last 20+ years got us to where we are now.
Yeah, what happened back in 2016 is that cis.org map showed ND as a sanctuary state, but it was incorrect. Breitbart wrote a story about it in 2016 without fact checking, and then 100 “conservative” blogs that repost content copied the Breitbart story further spreading the false info.

And the fact that evil people must commit something truly evil before they can be stopped is a sign of these times. Before Jimmy Carter started the move from State Mental Institutions (claiming their rights were being “violated” by locking them up) there were three eligible criteria to admit them.
1). Unable to care for self
2) A risk to self
3) A risk to the public
