Whether it's a shortage of grocery items or prices skyrocketing at stores—shoppers aren't happy. Due to supply chain issues that have caused strain on major retailers like Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion, Costco, customers are experiencing frustrations while shopping for food and other daily essentials at their local stores.
We reached out to our readers on Facebook and Twitter and asked them to share about the specific grocery shortages that are currently frustrating them the most. Customers from around the U.S. wrote in their current frustrations at stores—and a few repeated items popped up from shopper complaints.
Almond trees, and hardy almonds at that, can be bought in gardening catalogues.
IIRC, Gurney’s is one of them.
Most nut trees are just on the borderline for this climate for cold hardiness, but would work just fine further south.
If someone wants to have their own supply, they can order trees and grow their own.
Just remember that the movie “Soylent Green” was projected for year 2022!
1. Cat food ~ No Cats/pets
2. Cream cheese ~ I hate it and a small package goes out of date if my wife doesn’t eat it.
3. Dried pasta ~ Our local small chain, really is like a neighborhood store was out of Ziti and other pasta. So I ordered 6 of each from Amazon and gave the store manager a copy to show his bosses. No more outages
4. Refrigerated cinnamon rolls ~ one step below cream cheese
5. Cold remedies ~ Don’t use them.
I just bought several pounds of thick sliced pepper bacon to cook with and for the best BLTs. California is going to outlaw mass produced pork. So we will stock up on Pulled Pork from this week’s 2 hour delivery program.
Right there is a huge part of the shortage problem. Factories weren’t ready for the sudden prepping purchases. The tp shortage started the rush.
Absolutely, everyone should have a few months of food put back for any number of emergencies - any illness or health problem that limits your ability to shop, unemployment, any financial problem, etc. But in today’s world, people were used to shopping daily or weekly so they only purchased what they needed. Many people never had anything but restaurant take home in their fridges and their ovens had never been used.
Combine the sudden uptick in purchases with employee shortages (covid, paid not to work and early retirements) and it’s another Houston, we have a problem.
Diet Dr Pepper and Costco canned Dog food for us.
Some shortages in my grocery store, but the big shock is the price increases. Beef and chicken prices are through the roof. A beef roast I could have bought a year ago for less than $3 per pound is now nearly $7. Bacon is now $7 per pound. However, I see smaller price increases on just about everything from potatoes to peanut butter. The supply chain BS is part of the problem, but the real culprit is inflation. Biden’s profligate trillion dollar spending packages have hugely devalued the dollar. We are rapidly seeing a repeat of the stagflation of Jimmy Carter.

They are an end-cap item at my local store, kind of weird it’s a big issue.
My wife was just in Hollywood FL. She to go to three stores to find the ingredients to make a lasagna. She said the produce was mediocre at best.
Hard to believe we have better produce in Western MA than FL in January.
Not so much in my neck of the woods in central Florida. Just left Publix and there is no cream cheese products at all, no name brands no store brands no nothing. They are are spacing items out in hopes that no one notices the lack of choices.

The shower spray is the Tilex brand, and you spray it all over the shower floor and walls after taking a shower to keep it clean. For about a year they were unavailable as the companies that make them had put all their efforts into producing stronger disinfectants with bleach. Eventually, some other brands like Ka-Boom started showing up and finally a couple of months ago the Tilex is back on the shelves.
The Diet Cherry Coke shortage was due to aluminum can shortages, and companies like Coke stopped making some of their flavors to concentrate on their core flavors. I do not know if the Diet Cherry is back yet because during the shortage, I discovered I am "too white" for Coke products so it is a moot point now when or if they start making it again as I will never buy it.

I am in this industry. If the government actually enforced the antitrust laws we would not have nearly the shortages. The conglomerates are reducing their expenses and not really concerned about a lot of the shortages. They are taking the communist approach of-this is what I am making and you can have this much. Yes, there are some shortages, but the smaller vendors have adapted much better that the big guys.

Almost! Cream Cheese need heavy cream in it. Found a recipe online for cream cheese that I’m gonna try. I make my own yogurt and ricotta cheese so one more to make is no big deal

Pasta is simply flour and water (or eggs) and a little elbow grease. We've been making ours for a long time -- and it's better. Those big-upper-body mamma Leones knew what they were doing.

They misspelled “aisle” ISLE and because it is all caps, spellcheck wouldn’t catch it. I doubt the misspelling was on purpose.
Maybe there's a supply glitch at some random store or other, and there are certainly rising prices for meat, but I don't see an impeding food apocalypse.
Unless the government uses some "crisis" or other to create one on purpose.
Just so we are clear - those are not shortages I am complaining about. Those are the ones from the article. I just listed them so everyone could see what the author was complaining about.
