The battle rages on between point shooters and those who rely on sighted fire. Is there a true winner in that contest? What are the pros and cons of each and which parts of each, if any, are utilized by professional lead slingers who carry a gun for food?

Rather than spend valuable time arguing one side or the other, I'll ask a different question: How can we take the best that both sides have to offer and use it to become a better shooter?

Instead of looking at it as two sides of a separate argument, what if you were to further develop your shooting skills by learning how to make better alignment by feel (allow your body to teach you) and then if needed—based on technicality of the shot—utilize additional muzzle-target orientation refinement?
The purpose of shooting is to hit the intended target. To shoot well is to hit the target with optimal control resulting in a measurable balance of speed and accuracy. Whether you accomplish this task using point shooting, sighted fire, or a combination of the two is not a matter of argument, but a matter of practical application.

If you have ever watched Annie Oakley, You will see she is doing something other than using the sights. It’s not actually point shooting. I like to think of it as “area” focus. You are aware of the sights, but they are not your primary focus. I remember shooting an m-16 downrange at a pop-up target. I saw both rounds in flight at the same time. A real life example of this is arrowhead hunting, lol. If you try to focus immediately on a “maybe” arrowhead, you will miss a real one very near it. If you area focus the ground in front of you, your chances climb of spotting one. It takes a little practice, but can be very useful for other things too.

No, centripetal acceleration in an orbiting body, as the gun is as its swing around, is actually back toward the center of the rotation, the person swinging the gun. Velocity at any instance is different between the breech and muzzle because the lever arm is different . That should not be confused with the change in velocity (definition of acceleration) which again, is back towards the shooter. This acceleration is inconsequential compared to the acceleration of the bullet out the barrel from the expanding gas when you fire the gun. There is also gravitational acceleration which is also inconsequential to this problem. This is physics.
Good point, there’s a lot of unexplored psycho-physiology in this area. There has to be some of the same thing going on with some sports as well.
That might be a option as I’ve been rehabbing thumb surgery damage for going on 6 yrs now, the hard cast caused a Mallet or Baseball index finger that is very stubborn to rehab. Thumb is froze.

I shot most of that 10K in the many sand pits near Pensacola Fla. Using a simple target load of 3.2gr Bullseye and I casted my own bullets. Cases lasted almost forever. After each shooting session I would collect as many bullets I could find that rain would bring to the surface, to add to the lead pot for the next casting session. So primers were my largest expense. So each round cost me less than .22 shells and that was back in the late 70’s.

Kind of like how one can be dribbling, focused on opponents, then transition on the fly to a jump or layup shot, a/o actually “ seeing where he and basket are in space and time.
