"Anderson Cooper: 360" performed the strongest of CNN's weak primetime shows last month. The program reached 1 million viewers six times in September, averaging 916,000 viewers, a 41% decrease from his 1.55-million average in September 2020.

By comparison, Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" averaged a whopping 3.3 million viewers and MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes" averaged 1.3 million in the 8 p.m. ET timeslot.

"Cuomo Prime Time," once CNN's most-watched show, trailed behind Anderson Cooper, reaching 1 million viewers just twice last month and averaging 874,000 viewers. Fox News' "Hannity" averaged 2.9 million during the same 9 p.m. ET timeslot, while MSNBC's "The Rachel Maddow Show" averaged 2.3 million, both never falling below 1 million.

CNN's embattled anchor Chris Cuomo lost nearly half his viewers since last year when he averaged 1.65 million viewers.

Cuomo's handoff buddy Don Lemon also shed 47% of his viewers from last year, going from a 1.36 million-viewer average to 742,000. Lemon never reached 1 million viewers during the entire month, coming in a distant third against Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" and MSNBC's "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell." The latter shows averaged 2.4 and 1.5 million viewers respectively and always maintained seven-digit viewership.Video

CNN's daytime programming did not fare any better. Dayside anchor Jake Tapper never reached 1 million viewers in September. His program "The Lead" certainly did not lead in the ratings, suffering a 44% drop from his 1.3 million viewer average last year to his weak 737,000 average this year.

I know that, so don't compare it to cable news programs.
Did you compare Rush's ratings to Tucker's ratings on Fox on cable?
We can always co.pare Hannity on radio to Joe Rogan on podcast if you want.

None of that means they are paying for the free broadcasts.
If they don't pay their cable fees and they get canceled, they can still watch NBC CBS and ABC for free.

All are examples of propaganda, unconcerned with the pressure of a market.

“People need to understand that CNN ratings are meaningless.”

Thank you! So many of us still think it is 1970, and that any “Corporation” is still primarily interested in profits, sales, ratings. CNN is a dark funded propaganda machine! If viewership falls sufficiently, it will simply be relabeled as another entity. We slept while the Devil infiltrated and took over virtually every single institution. Does anyone really believe dropping ratings will actually affect anything?

Excellent, that will show them! The patriots at Amazon and Google(Youtube) well deserve your loyalty and dollars. I hope you feel good now that your dollars are in good hands.

“None of that means they are paying for the free broadcasts.”

If you are one of the 86% of households who get their tv via streaming service, cable or satellite, you have to pay for CBS, ABC and/or NBC. It’s not free. If you are one of the 14% of tv households that has an antenna that can receive broadcasts, then CBS, ABC and NBC would be free.

Me and millions of others do not have antennas so to watch the Big Three, we’d have to pay for it.

“People need to understand that CNN ratings are meaningless. They DON’T CARE. The network is a loss leader for whichever giant corporation that owns them.

Yep, AT&T needs to be hurt financially through it’s phone service or dropping HBO subscriptions before they would give two hoots about CNN.

Actually ATT loves profits at least equal to or more than anyone else. They always have. One of the reasons they were broken up by the government years back.

Nope.

It's not free.

It is.

Everybody can get an antenna or whatever and get ABC NBC CBS for free. You don't pay for those.
You are paying for your cable, streaming whatever. You are not paying for the free networks. Nobody does.

To an extent, but then CNN/MSNBC don't get free money from congress. They gotta pay their bills like everyone else from their own revenues.

“You are paying for your cable, streaming whatever. You are not paying for the free networks. Nobody does.”

In order to get CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS, I’d have to pay for a package that includes those networks. My cable provider, Charter Spectrum, will not provide those networks unless I pay. Thus they are not free.

“Everybody can get an antenna or whatever and get ABC NBC CBS for free.”

But only 14% of tv households have done so your argument that CBS news, ABC news, and NBC news have far more viewers then Fox news is invalid. If the vast majority of tv households had an antenna installed so they could receive programing broadcast over the air, which isn’t the case, then your argument would be valid.

The truth is, only a tiny percentage of adults in this country watch Fox News. There are about 260 million adults in the US. About 3 million watch Tucker Carlson. That comes out to just over 1% of the adult population.

No you DON'T.
You can drop your package today and cheerfully enjoy the free NBC CBS ABC without paying a penny to anybody.
You are like the joker who goes out to buy air which is freely available to everyone else, then insists you can't get free air without paying for it. Chuckle.

Um, you may want to read this from Pew Research. Your figures are wrongand out of date. Consumers are abandoningcable as fast as they can:

Cable and satellite TV use has dropped dramatically in the U.S. since 2015

The share of Americans who say they watch television via cable or satellite has plunged from 76% in 2015 to 56% this year, according to a new Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults.17 Mar 2021

How does that support you argument that the reason CBS News, ABC News, and NBC News have far more viewers then Fox News is because everybody can watch those networks for free when 86% of household with a tv don’t have antennas that can receive over the air broadcasts?

Think about it. If all households had antennas installed, then CBS, NBC, and ABC each wouldn’t just have 3 to 4 times the viewers then Fox News has, they have many dozens of more viewers each then Fox and combined, probably well over a 100 times more viewers.

“You’d better read my post #56.”

Where does it talk about the number or percentage of households who get their tv programming free via antenna? I can’t find any mention of it. I did see this:

“About half (53%) of nonsubscribers ages 18 to 29 say a reason they do not have cable or satellite service at home is because they do not often watch television. That compares with a similar share (47%) of nonsubscribers ages 30 to 49 and a third of those 50 and older.”

Like a growing number of other people, as the article you provided a link to says, I get my content by internet streaming services by the cable company Charter Spectrum. I pay Charter spectrum for internet access and pay subscription fees for Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I was trying to look up Fox News 25th anniversary, and kept getting articles saying how Fox News was number one in ratings, burying CNN, MSNBC.
