MSNBC’s Reid: Coverage of Gabby Petito Case Is ‘Missing White Woman Syndrome
Breitbart ^ | 09/20/2021 | Pam Key

Monday, on her show “The ReidOut,” MSNBC anchor Joy Reid said that the media coverage of 22-year-old Gabby Petito is a clear case of “Missing White Woman Syndrome.”

Reid said, “If you’ve been watching the news for the past few days or on Twitter or TikTok, you’re familiar with the name Gabby Petito. The 22-year-old aspiring social media influencer who was reported missing after her fiancee returned from their van life excursion without her. On Sunday, human remains believed to be Petito’s were found in a national park in Wyoming. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow to confirm the identity. Now it goes without saying that no family should ever have to endure that kind of pain, and the Pepito family certainly deserves answers and justice

Simple. Clicks/Page Views. As long as the story is generating lots of those, it will be covered.

People are interested in knowing the latest developments in the story. The story itself does have and continues to have some unusual elements.

And Reid is partially right about the missing white woman element. But she is wrong to leave out the other descriptors: young, attractive, middle class. In other words, sort of like people that work in …oh, I don’t know, media?

Does Reid honestly believe this story would be getting this amount of continuing coverage if Gabby Petito had been a fat ugly poor middle aged white woman who lived in a Florida trailer park?

The best response to Joy Reid is the same response any other professional race hustler should receive: you know what they are going to say before they even speak and click past them. Like the story under discussion, these people derive all their power from getting people to listen them. They prove their influence by clicks. Denying them clicks is denying their power to influence (and sell advertising). When the clicks go away, eventually so will they.

Oblivion couldn’t happen to a more deserving group of people.

“yet, they don’t get their own six-week news following?”

IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME in Chicago. It is ROUTINE. Someone’s boyfriend driving her van across country after she disappears, then shrugging his shoulders and saying “Beats me!” IS unusual.

And as I have already pointed out, she’s pretty. If Gabby looked like the mayor of Chicago, no one would get excited. If she weighed 350 lbs, no one would care. Pretty young girl? Lots of photos of her looking innocent - and maybe she’s a witch, but she LOOKS innocent - that plus her fiancé makes it news.

“This morning on The Daily Mail there was 8 different stories about this missing woman.”

The Daily Mail runs almost daily stories on Paulina Porizkova (spelling?). It runs 3-4 stories a week on Liz Hurley in a bikini. So...are you surprised?

I am not enamored in the case either.
However, EVERY woman in my office is.
Especially, the millienials.(twenty somethings).
The 27 year old female next to meet is obsessed with it.
She is a Democrat from MA though.

Joy Reid sounds like some freepers here. They’re also complaining that a missing/murdered “white woman” is receiving attention.

If the couple were missing, and the suspect were black, would those same freepers complain that we’re discussing the case? Are those freepers ever bothered by the multiple threads on black crime?

As for Joy Reid, I noticed she didn’t mention the two white men missing in the same area as Gabby. Their cases haven’t received much attention, either.

If Gabby were black, and the suspect white, would Ms. Reid complain about the media attention?

And what makes anyone think the news coverage means the media care more about this missing woman? The media are making money on this story.

When George Floyd died in police custody, some white men died the same way around the same time. One was punched by police as they held him down. Video exists of their deaths, too. Where’s the national coverage? Where’s the outrage?

That was a horrible story if we are speaking of the same event. It happened in the 1990s before the internet.
I recall it being in a very snowy part of the country. Blacks robbing and I think kidnapping a small group of white friends.

I think you are referring to the Wichita event in 2000.

It exposes the need for mental health support for these kids

On the other hand, the ‘mental health support’ is being done by the delusional and insane. People need help, but a lot of care needs to be in place to see if it is actually help.

Like Opera who spoke with hatred toward white women years ago - saying any white woman could take any black man away from a black woman AND HOW SHE RESENTED THAT...”

I will say this for the umpteeth time on FR, nobody is owed anything, and nobody belongs to anyone, adult citizens are free to be with anyone they please, her feelings be damned.
