Don’t give up on baseball. Get involved with a minor league team and take him to as many games as possible. Read the sports pages for news and updates on the team. Go early and meet the players.
I grew up with a Class D league team, along time ago, but my love for baseball has never waivered. I just don’t watch many games anymore.
Your son will do fine!

The game of baseball is not the problem. The owners of teams and the sports broadcasters are the problem.

"Here’s an idea. Instead of watching, play some. Get together with some like-minded parents and play sports with your kids. Or let them play and you watch or officiate."

Baseball is alive and prospering in flyover America's sandlots and low minors. Even in my 70's and with poor health, I assist in coaching youth recreational baseball. Nothing is more rewarding than helping an eight year old figure out how to p!ay the game. Simply joy shown by a player when they start to learn how to catch, hit, and throw. That simple joy is what is missing in the big leagues.

Stay away. Professional sports and politics are not a good mix. Most everything that politics touches becomes evil and worthless.

Don’t you love where they put the new Braves stadium traffic wise?

Maybe work on instilling patriotic value in your son and teach him there are things worth more than chasing a ball around a field while disrespecting the flag. You are the only one that can do it.

Reading through the comments I like the idea of focusing on your son playing. Maybe once in a while take him to a minor league game.

The idea of sitting, watching a sporting event seems bad at that young of an age. Maybe when he is 40. You are better off playing a baseball computer game with him.

Yep - closer to the real sport and the athletes are those he can relate to.

I’m left wondering: As a man no longer in New York with an eight-year-old kid who needs to dream of sports, is there any team I can root for without rooting for people who would pack up my family and send us to the gulag?

UFC. Some of most colorful and skilled men on the planet. Not to mention absolutely the most dangerous.

MLB hired an dot Indian VP of Technology.

New hires are only H1B of H4EAD Indians. Current MLB software developers furloughed last year are offered their jobs back at 30% to 50% of former salary.

This, only ones getting interviewed are dot Indians for software development positions.

So yeah, eff MLB.

that’s what I did when I was 17. Worked for the Angels affiliate in Vancouver for their summer run. Manned one of the hotdog stands because I was underage for carrying beer. One thing I noticed that the crowd had a large number of office employees who just ditched work to watch a game..

—————-

MLB used to have a pre-hire cultural fit quiz on baseball. It was removed when dot Indians filed a EEOC complaint saying knowledge of baseball was not important to doing their jobs. And so that quiz and any interview questions about baseball were removed..

And they still proclaimed they preferred their “superior” cricket instead.

Every dot Indian I had to interview was a smug, superior know-it-all little prick.

I know it’s hard as kids always want want is new and now, but a thing you could do is watch many of the classic games from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s with your kid. Many are on youtube and around the web. You can watch a different World Series every week.

Plus even minus the BLM BS, baseball was getting boring with its Sabermetric Stupidity, like never steal a base, defense doesn’t matter, bat your power hitter 2nd, move the fences in to Little League Dimensions and always swing for those fences whatever the situation (Man on 3rd, 1 out down a run, who cares swing as hard as you can to go for the homer) and who cares if you strikeout 200+ times a season.

Games back then just seemed more fun, they were also more fast paced, no stepping out of the batter’s box after every pitch to adjust your batting gloves and junk, No taking 1st pitch fastballs down the middle trying to work out a walk.

Today’s game you look away at your phone, at most you miss a pitch, you look at your phone watching a classic game you look up wondering how two men on with a run in happened so fast. You’ll notice how slooooooooooooow today’s game is.

Just a thought

Baseball was around before the MLB, and it will be around after, as well.

Take him to an MLB game, then a AAA/AA game, then a college game, so he can get exposed to different venues, but most importantly just worry about spending quality time with your son.

Little leagues, if sporting MLB names and colors, pay for the use of the franchise trademarks. Huh? Yep...

Next hit for the MLB would/should be to cut that legal bondage. Name your own team, and play ball.
