I needed 2 cops for an involuntary committal yesterday. They were needed to 'do the paper" and manhandle the patient onto our stretcher. This was a 250 lb 26 year old female. Sure a social worker, if they're present, can do the paper, but involuntary committals are impossible without the cops 90% of the time.
In an ideal world we'd be issued rifles w/tranquilizer darts, like Jim had in 'Wild Kingdom'. If it worked on animals on the Serengeti it'd probably work on animals in West Philly.
But Philly doesn’t like or want its cops, so surely social workers can do all that for them.
They clearly think so.
If this family sues, taxpayers should take them to court to recover the payout the city will give them.
