Could be an “over capacity” heavy load due to Hunter Biden news. Seems plausible, except I expect Twitter has enormous backup capacity.
Many theorizing it’s Twitter making expedient changes to their censorship system, to stem the outbreak of devastating Biden news (major media isn’t reporting on it, but social media is abuzz and our would-be overlords want it stopped).
Yeah, funny, all systems are marked “operational” when obviously it isn’t.

Twitter down, suffers worldwide outage
he social networking website Twitter went down on Thursday in what appeared to be a global outage, users said. The cause of the outage was not immediately known.
The problem began at 5:35 p.m. New York time on Thursday when users were unable to send any new tweets. The website initially remained accessible, but began showing an error message a short time later.
“Error. Something went wrong, but don’t fret – it’s not your fault,” the message said.
Just after 6 p.m., the website was once again accessible, but users were still unable to send any new tweets.
The cause of Thursday’s outage was not immediately known. A website created by Twitter to provide updates during outages has not been updated, saying simply: “All Systems Operational.”
There was no immediate comment from Twitter.
Tantalizing tidbits like:
“22. Buy a cell phone from a 7/11 or CVS tmrw and ill do the same.”
“Additionaly wanted to agree with you some of the main bullet of those answers: ... No one from the Burisma ever management team ever met the father of HB.”
Maybe it was a Trump twitter storm that did it? LOL...

I think twitter is pretty complicated behind the scenes. Meaning a little glitch could crash it. There made it complicated, the fact they can intercept links like the new york post article and reroute it in real time on the entire platform is proof. Couldn’t even send in in a direct message.
Of note, this 3rd release is from a different news source (not NY Post), and includes a link to 29 emails.
Indicates we’re seeing a coordinated large-scale political attack on Biden.

Twitter has been down for me for nearly an hour now.

Trending with twice the number of tweets as #2. That hash tag didn’t show on autofill, meaning they were trying to stop it.
Conversely, a system with such a large user base should be seriously robust against “a little glitch”. This isn’t a one-server system written by a few yahoos, this is a worldwide system built for a billion users and major usage spikes.
I expect they’re trying to revamp the censorship system before Biden’s town hall - and it’s going badly (deep changes to a massive system on short notice do not go well).
