Murders usually do a LOT less than 40 years. Most do 8 years on a 12-25 sentence.

Two murders and a gang rape with children present. He’s the poster boy for death penalty or life w/o parole.

I had a friend whose sister suffocated her 93 year old father. 8 1/2 years in prison.
That is when I learned most murderers don’t do much time.
