ESPN Subscriber Losses Accelerate as Network Returns to Woke Programming
Breitbart ^ | 5 Aug 2020 | WARNER TODD HUSTON

The subscriptions and revenues for ESPN are plummeting at an increasingly fast rate, as the network has replaced its sports coverage with leftist propaganda.

Analyst Rich Greenfield recently looked at Disney and ESPN’s reports and found very troubling numbers for the sport network and its parent company.

ESPN’s loss in subscribers is also shocking for its size. The loss of subscribers continues and is down another six percent year-over-year.

So far, this year’s subscriber loss has accelerated over past years. The sports network was down 4.5 percent in the first quarter, off 5.5 percent in the second quarter, and down a whopping 6 percent in the third quarter.

Indeed, the six percent decline ESPN saw in the third quarter this year is just part of the declines suffered in every quarter at since the third quarter of 2016.

Industry analyst Rich Greenfield posted the numbers.

Greenfield also found that average revenue per user (ARPU) for the Disney+ offering of ESPN+ is down 22 percent over last year’s numbers.

Greenfield added that ESPN+ ARPU numbers fell to $4.18 from $5.33 last year.

ESPN’s ratings have also been crashing and burning. In July, for instance, ESPN saw its lowest ratings in the network’s 41-year history as “WokeCenter on steroids” takes over.

The last thing I watched on ESPN was the World Cup of Foosball. None of the little players knelt. Neither did their coaches.

I mean, their wokeness even ruined Korean baseball for cripes sakes. They had a US exclusive on the only sport being played on the planet and they lost me because they just wouldn’t shut-up with all the wokeness.

We are fans of an MLB team and an NBA team. The NBA team is now woke, so I don’t care if they go bankrupt. If the MLB team goes woke, it erases more than 120 years of tradition and needs to die.

Haven’t watched ESPN since May because of the Leftist propaganda. Don’t plan to any time soon.

The only thing I watch ESPN for is college football. I barely even bother watching their college football recap show half the time. Other than that just live broadcasts and that’s it.

How can you run a hugely successful business into the ground, with few competitors? Just ask ESPN.

I haven't deliberately watched a broadcast of ESPN in months...there may have been a golf thing on, but that's about it.

ESPN needs to make a deal with all sports teams that they will broadcast the video of the game while providing direct audio form the team’s own radio broadcast play by play. That way they cut delete all of the on-air “talent” contracts

I would much rather listen to the home town guys then national announcers.

Bingo!

A lot of these cable channels stay afloat because they are in the basic bundle. They get a subscriber fee whether you watch them or not.

Cut your cable tv to force the cable companies to go a la carte. Then you only pay for the channels you want.

I have been cable tv free since 2007 and do not miss it a bit. I have peace of mind that I am not funding the LEFT.
