Try blueletterbible.org - RVR60 is the Spanish translation.

Visión de Isaías hijo de Amoz, la cual vio acerca de Judá y Jerusalén en días de Uzías, Jotam, Acaz y Ezequías, reyes de Judá.

They are using the Spanish spelling and pronunciation of the name which is normally rendered Isaiah in English.

In John 1.23 Isaiah's name appears in the Greek as Esaias (eta-sigma-alpha-iota-alpha-sigma). I have a copy of the Septuagint which uses that spelling for the book of Isaiah but also gives the Latin spelling Isaias. That is also St. Jerome's rendition in John 1.23. The Greek translators of the Bible turned the final -jah of names into -ias.

Actually, I didn't start the thread to discuss the correct pronunciation of the word so much as to point out another incremental taking of our language.

I am deeply worried for America because a LOT of damage has been done to our children regarding our identification with our own heritage and our fabric.

... and it seems perhaps too large of a percentage of adults, as well.

It’s just a Spanish boy’s name. We’ve given Spanish or Hispanic names to hurricanes in the past - I think most recently Juan, who is also in the Bible, but spelled and pronounced differently in Spanish.

That's a legitimate concern. Where words whose spelling hasn't been changed but the meaning has been is a related matter. gay fairy justice woke "college degree" wife player grass partner liberal progressive

(plus a hundred other doublespeak brainwashing word corruptions)

Your comment is legitimate with regard to certain manipulations of language - but not with regard to the Spanish name Isaias.

Isaiah......I-zay-ah. Is how I have always pronounced his name

But my Bible online has a British person reading the text....
...and he pronounces Isaiah as.....I-zi-ah

"Isaias" is how it is spelled in Latin.   (See "https://vulgate.org/".)

I’m not sure what your point is. This remark is too terse for me to understand what you are trying to convey regarding my Post #25.

Yeah, I’m ‘terse’ like that - when I’m not being voluble.

(The former is far more rare.)
