Just as in 1972, the Democrats put up nominees who were mentally unstable and outside the mainstream.
But the author has a poor grasp of history. The riots and street confrontations were in 1968 and it helped Nixon get into office against a splintered Democrat Party. Nixon even promoted himself as the “law and order candidate”.
May? If Trump is to be re-elected, they are going to be needed.
Nobody likes to be looted.
Nobody.

The main problem is that as long as the vast majority of Leftists think it’s a problem that is very unlikely to happen to them, they don’t care.
I believe that a lot of people are keeping their power dry because they will voice their outrage at the ballot box. If Trump does not prevail, it is going to get very dicey.
Is this the MSM attempting to tell BLM et.al. to dial it back a bit?
Seniors dont like rocks rough their windows and many people like LEO.
Fwiw, I was IN Chicago during the 1968 DIMocRATS Convention in 1968, as a reporter for an Arkansas newspaper & for a small FM radio station.
FYI, the MESS in the streets was FAR more violent than the press said. - More than once, we reporters wondered if we would “get out of Chi-town” W/O getting injured or killed.

How likely is it that the American voter will elect a man that they know is mentally defective? The riots could help Trump, bit I think that he will win re-election even without them. Still, I think that he needs to assert control over the rioters and show who they really are.
Well yeah, now that the left has proven it wants to burn America to the ground and democrats will give them gasoline, the choice is pretty frikkin clear.
Agree with you. I recently met with a customer who’s never uttered a political word to me. His very first comment was, “I don’t watch the news anymore and I don’t want to hear about any ‘lives’ that are more important than mine or my kids.’”
How does the unrest now, compare to the unrest then?
My GUESS is that the “violence in the streets” is WORSE in 2020 than it was in 1968 BUT really I have no actual evidence that it is worse.- SORRY, I just do NOT know for sure.

Among Republicans, 77% say they are afraid to express support for Trump, fearing reprisals such as job loss, vandalism, and physical assault.
That’s a lot of people ready to go “take that, Dems!” when they pull the lever for PDJT in November.
I was age 20 in 1968 and saw the riots & burning on TV.
The difference? Then, police & mayors were on the side of law & order, and rioters got beaten down in large numbers.
Then, too, most realized that an external enemy, the world communist movement, was aiding & abetting the mayhem.
Then, too, America had a huge number of WWII veterans who were not yet fifty for the most part.
“If there is really a silent majority, it will not represent a mandate for Mr. Trump.”
bullshit ...
100% CORRECT. -Nonetheless, I was asked about how the level of violence then/now compared & said that I guessed that the MESS in 2020 is WORSE than in 1968 but have no evidence that my GUESS was correct.

“I get the sense that common sense thinking Americans now see the Democrats going off the political deep end. Their insistence to defund and attack police from coast to coast was a major political blunder by the RATS. ... m starting to like Trumps chances to be re-elected! The RATS overreached and went too far with the racial warfare!”
yeah, i’m getting that same sense of things ...
I kinda wish they would start trying such a tactic. Let them start with the urban apartments and work their way out to the suburbs. They are stupid enough as to forget about door peepholes and what may be right next to that door. Think Remington 870 Express, so I've been told.
I have found it extremely encouraging about so many new gun buyers that never would have considered such a purchase. Just hope they train and keep out of reach of children.
Also, I've never been big on conspiracies, but if local Law Enforcement doesn't put this multi-city rioting down, it will grow and develop tentacles (cells) everywhere. It's leaders will become stronger with even more funding and we'll truly be looking at type of civil war. I hate to reference Kent State, but I now believe some are going to have to die before this insurrection ends. If LE or National Guard won't stop it, guess who will do the job?
